Can I put away my snow shovel now?

Am I going to need my winter boots, coat, and Carrhart bibs anymore this season? Is it really time to stash away all my seriously warm clothes and get out my work boots?

You can put all that stuff away but then you'll be guaranteeing that you get pounded again and your neighbors will hate you when they figure out it was your fault. Your call.

Not here in Cheyenne, 50mph winds, snow already got about 2". And all I did was put the snow shovel in the shed.

I think snow accumulation in Massachusetts is basically over .... but you never really can be certain. As in sports, it's not over 'til the fat lady sings (or hops into a bikini anyway).

It depends. If you're the type of person that says "watch, when I light up this cigarette the bus is going to come". And it does. Keep it out! Don't jinx it.

Mine never goes away. Winter and summer clothes are always in the same place. My closet and drawers. My shovels are in the garage.

Michigan winter is over. There. I said it. There may be some cold and flurries. They linger into May on any typical spring but accumulation is over. Get out your golf clubs and hot pants.

OK, you have made your choice.

This is what you have wrought:

danohat's forecast

Winter storm affecting parts of northern Plains and Upper Midwest

A developing system will bring winter storm conditions through midweek across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, from the northern Rockies to the Great Lakes. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in effect across the region, with some locations forecast to get as much as 6-12 inches of snow.

Another way to jinx it- plant some tomatoes or other fruit, and watch 'em get killed by the frost.

I had a snow blower for many years, and even kept it out in the early summer. Can't trust mother nature.

I keep one of these in my driveway year-round with a snowmobile suit on the front seat. Hasn't snowed here in decades.

I was just gonna let it go, but you mentioned May, so:

Mid 70's, brother was a HS senior, IIRC, took his gf down to a wedding in Ohio for day.

16" of snow, vehicle stranded on the highway, slept in a school when rescued by the authorities.

It was May.

And:

Year of 2000, I planted a garden at the cottage at Houghton Lake. It froze every month of the summer.

Think what you want, but there's talk that the cold snowy winter will lead to a cooler summer, and I suspect one or more late winter/early spring storms yet to come.

It may melt fast, but spring moisture from down south leads to heavy snows when met with a Canadian cold front.

I've seen it happen a lot.

Alright. Well, let me put it this way. I am a pool guy and I am broke and a hopelessly addicted golfer so I am trying to positively think this cursed winter away.

Re: Can I put away my snow shovel now?

It only snowed twice here this winter, about on par. I still managed to break my snow shovel on the second fall. All of about 10 cm. I'm such a putz.

Still, gotta love the Canadian Riviera.

Re: Can I put away my snow shovel now?

If this winter is any indication,we are in for one more dump. But yesterday after getting home from work it was so nice, warm and sunny..i looked at the shovel on the porch and well, nah, keep it out where it is...checked the bike trails near my house...ready to ride...checked the scale..my svelt 195lbs has now become 205lbs...winter protection...is it over?...nah...3 or 4 more weeks for sure, then its time to bust my nuts and lose that extra poundage and then i'll put away the shovel...

It's Michigan. You need to keep a shovel handy until at least late April....
