They are all fast food, served to appear as if it is from a mid scale restaurant.

Re: What's Your Favorite of These Restaurants?

If you were blindfolded, could you really tell the difference between simliar menu items at any of these restaurants?

They are all corporate chains serving bland pre-packaged frozen food and prescribed menus aimed at the average American palate.

Chili's has 1,400 locations and is owned by Brinker International
Bennigan's had about 300 locations until they filed for bankruptcy in 2008, now they have about 30.
Applebee's has over 2,000 locations and is owned by Applebee’s International, Inc.
Outback has about 1,000 locations and is owned by Bloomin' Brands, Inc.
TGI Fridays has less than 200 locations and is owned by the Carlson Companies

On May 22, 2013, investigators with the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) raided 29 bars and restaurants around the state, including 13 TGI Friday's franchises; the result of a year-long probe dubbed "Operation Swill". Investigators had received complaints from customers that the establishments were substituting premium brand alcoholic beverages with lower-cost brands, while charging them for the more expensive liquor. The investigators found that the bars filled premium-brand bottles with cheaper alcohol, including potentially dangerous rubbing alcohol, or water with added caramel color "to fool the customer, and increase profits". The ABC, with assistance from the State Division of Criminal Justice, seized bottles of open alcohol from the bars, and demanded records from the establishment's owners. A statement released by Friday's said it "was just made aware of this issue and is working closely with the franchisee and owner of the cited locations to review and investigate these serious allegations."

I like the burgers at Applebee's, and the chips at Chili's are good.
When I go out I get a burger most the time.

Fridays I don't remember too well, and I've never been to outback.

Edit: and I think I've been to Bennigan's once or twice, I remember it being good, but nothing specific.

And these are about the fanciest restaurants I go to.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I haven't eaten at one of these places in years, and won't in the future. I think they're all pretty gross. But I was having a conversation about them with a friend, so I thought I'd see what the rest of you thought.

With a gun to my head?

Chilis.

Only because the guacamole dip + chips is pretty good.

Overpriced corporate restaurants do suck though. And far more of that food is microwaved then people really want to know.

I had a friend get a job at Red Lobster and I was shocked how much of the food he told me was microwaved.

For those prices people need to cook the damn food. If I wanted microwave food I could stay at home.

For restaurants these days you really have to find small little 'non-chain' places that use fresh ingredients and don't pre-freeze their food.

There's a couple little places around here like that. ( I do love the variety of food in Chicago.)

But those restaurants listed? Junk,...all that's junk.

That's just McDonalds on a fancier plate.

Re: What's Your Favorite of These Restaurants?

For some reason it irritates the ever-living shit out of me how some of these places advertise their "Jack Daniels ________" as if its going to be something worth eating. It's not. It's total dog crap. I tried the Jack Daniels Chicken something or other at a TGIFridays a while back and it tasted like nursing home food. But I guess it's good marketing because people are eating that garbage up because its got the name of a popular liquor attached to it.

Re: What's Your Favorite of These Restaurants?

There are too many great non-chain restaurants in my area to eat at any of those places.

At the bottom, I'd put TGI Friday:

Rubbing alcohol as scotch? N.J. officials release details of 'Operation Swill' | NJ.com

Quote:
TRENTON — In one case, a New Jersey bar allegedly mixed rubbing alcohol with caramel food coloring and served it as scotch.

In another, a bar is accused of pouring dirty water into an empty bottle and passing it off as liquor.

Those are some of the details state officials released today after a year-long investigation called "Operation Swill," which culminated Wednesday when more than 100 investigators raided 29 bars and restaurants across New Jersey on the suspicion they had been serving cheap alcohol disguised as premium brands.

"What these 29 establishments have allegedly done threatens the integrity of the alcoholic beverage industry as a whole," state Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa said at a news conference today in Trenton. "This alleged scheme is a dishonest ruse to increase profits, and it is a slap in the face of the consumer. The consumer should have the peace of mind to know that when they pay for something, they get exactly what they paid for, no exceptions."

Thirteen of the establishments identified were TGI Fridays franchises operated by the Briad Group, a Livingston-based hospitality company. TGI Friday's corporate offices in Texas said today that the accusations are "very disturbing."

Regarding Chili's. Is it really necessary for them to boil the corn on the cob so long that a toothless hillbilly can eat it?

Re: What's Your Favorite of These Restaurants?

We have so many great restaurants in the Philly area in all price ranges that there is no reason to go to a chain. Even in my little suburban town we have a 2 Sushi bars, 2 gastro pubs, a micro brewery, a half dozen brick oven pizzerias, and 4 or 5 sports bars, not to mention PF Changs.

If I don't mind driving a few miles there are dozens of chefs, and hundreds of highly rated eateries: http://www.phillymag.com/articles/50...adelphia-2012/

They all really suck, and their menu's are extremely similar. Throw melted cheese or shrimp on a steak with some bbq sauce or a pseudo portabelo mushroom,... throw in some slick tv commercials /advertising and it's a new dining sensation, mmmmmmmmmm....not!!!

In the vein of the others listed, how could you leave out the Dardens brand ones?

Darden Restaurants - A Leader in the Full-Service Restaurant Industry

Our Brands Overview
Red Lobster
Olive Garden
LongHorn Steakhouse
Bahama Breeze
Seasons 52
The Capital Grille
Eddie V's
Yard House

A history of horrible employee practices, high sodium, over priced pre-prepared foods, and all the while pushing GOOD non-chain places with fresh prepared foods out of business.

I avoid all the chains, and have a real issue with specific ones.

But the masses seemingly cannot tell the difference....

Shockingly...NONE of those were part of the poll question.

Relevance??

Of those listed, I'm going with Applebee's.

Outback sucks, and Chili's blows the hardest.

Can't comment on the rest.

Skinny, you left out Red Robin.

Have some cheap beef, on a stale bun, with some undercooked "steak fries." Do you want some season salt with that?

The biggest scam perpetrated on the American people in the name of seafood is LongJohn Slivers! I damn near needed an EPA oil spill kit for the amount of oil saturating the bag on the way home. Plus the "fish dinner" looked nothing like it does on tv (exact words from mrs marker as she saw what was in the bag) never again

I've eaten at one of those... Once.

was not impressed.

And don't get me wrong guys, I'm from Houston, which has one of the best food scenes in the US these days... Really.

And Austin has way too many great places to eat at to lure me to "Shenanigan's" or whatever chain places are around.
