What do you know about Wenatchee, Washington?

I'm here for a job interview tomorrow (I am currently employed, just looking for something better). Never been here. Seems nice enough. Any one ever been to Wenatchee? Any thing I should do while I'm here?

Well the job is actually in Chelan but I figure I'd live in Wenatchee if I get the job. I looked at real estate in Chelan and it looks crazy expensive

Re: What do you know about Wenatchee, Washington?

Well, the interview went pretty good I think. It sounds like the position won't be immediately available, but sometime in the near future. They sounded like they wanted to hire me and said they would email/call me as soon as the position is available. During the interview, the plant manager did say he prefers people to live within 1/2 hour of the facility though it is not a requirement. But I got from Wenatchee to the facility in about 45 minutes. It really looks like a great place to work. I hope they contact me when the job becomes available.

I checked out quite a bit of the area. Chelan looks badass but expensive. Looks like a lot of cool shit to do in the area with hiking, biking, snowmobiling, skiing, jet skiing, fishing, hunting. The whole area seemed real nice and particularly bike friendly which I like since I ride a lot. The only downside would be if I didn't live in Wenatchee, there really weren't a lot of other viable options that wouldn't include me living in the boonies.

I'm getting a gut ache stressing out just thinking about having to move though! Plus I have a house to sell in a shitty market. And I'm not very social outside of work so moving to a new city is a nerve wrecking prospect to me. But this opportunity is way too good to pass up!

Re: What do you know about Wenatchee, Washington?

The hwy on the east side of the river has a few neighborhoods that sit in between East Wenatchee and chelan... sun cove I think it called? Also, try listings in Manson outside chelan. A little bit more reasonable I believe. it sounds like you're outdoorsy...that is perfect for this area. you can bike this mofo easy too, as we have a loop trail on the river that'll connect you to the town.

Oh, and the dam is a lot closer to brewster/ pateros... but I wouldn't wanna live there myself.

Re: What do you know about Wenatchee, Washington?

Yeah, Brewster and Pateros didn't appeal to me much since there is nothing else up that way. I wouldn't mind the east side since it would be close to Chelan and Wenatchee. I drove around Manson this morning. It looked as nice as Chelan. I imagine anything with a view of the lake is crazy expensive though. I'll have to start looking at some real estate online. If I get the job, I'll most likely rent something cheap while I get to know the area and hopefully my house here in Chehalis will sell.

I liked Wenatchee c 1972-1973 when I worked on Colombia River Power project seismic jobs there and at Chelan. Later I worked in the Tri-cities area.

I thought the roads were well maintained and cool for riding, and even had my '72 Yamaha XS-650 air-freighted out from Boston. Loved those roads!

Actually I was talking about a pedal bike.

But actually, the area gets like 300 days of sunshine a year. A motorcycle would be nice...

if you have to come over for a follow up interview or something, I'd check out cafe Mela for local music... I believe they have a "website" on something called the inter-web.
