Ever donate stuff to the salvation Army?

This is an open letter to folks who think the Salvation Army is the city dump.

Do us all a favor by disposing of your piss soaked mattress, broken furniture, old paint and other hazardous chemicals, ripped and stained clothing, and anything else you've got that you're trying to "donate" instead of taking to the dump, on your own dime.

And why are you dropping off food that has an expiration date as far back as 2010?

I know you rejects shop here, I see you drop off toxic waste then pull around, park and head into the store. So, why would you dump shit and expect a good deal on good stuff in the store?

Please die in a fire and have a merry Christmas.

Yes, often...I see so much thrown out that could benefit the less fortunate in recent times. We live in a throw away age, disturbing what gets wasted or turned to trash after a single use.

Put it this way... If you were in need of some used funiture and had limited funds for whatever reason and went into a thrift store to buy a mattress and frame, would you buy one that is dripping piss and reaking from twenty feet?

Would you buy clothing that is wet and mildewed?

Would you buy a table with three legs cause one is missing?


And... To be fair, most stuff I see coming through is pretty sweet. Lots of stuff with the tags still on. But some people really make me wonder about human nature.

When my mom passed, almost all of her things went to the Salvation Army. My neighbor is a big shot with them. They do great work, not just by arranging donations, but many of the people who volunteer for the pickups and such so desperately need a chance to do something good to turn their lives around.

Sorry to learn about your mom's passing here. But yeah, its all about helping people. I lost my wife and she was only 37. all of her stuff went to help others through the SA.

I haven't donated to the Salvation Army since 1996, when they organized an intermittent series of demonstrations trying to shut down my porn shop. When I want to help poor folk, I donate to Good Will.

By the way, that wasn't just urine dripping off the mattress. I used a condom; I hope you had rubber gloves on. That hooker was NASTY. Just sayin'

Not for "profit"?You should see the 2 story mansion the Commander of Rutherford Salvation Army lived in that was owned & paid for by this "charity".
This is the same "charity" that couldn't give my high school a decent report of how much we donated to them and where it went.Make no mistake these things may have the tax status but they take care of themselves.

For a time I worked at the St Peters Salvos Store in Sydney taking collections.Of course people will dump shit at collection bins but anything unnacceptable was rejected at a drop-off point or at a collection visit.

And the point has obviously flown right over your head like a 747 but when one makes a donation to charities you'd like to think the donation will actually go to someone IN NEED not to a store employee because they like the look of it to keep for themselves or flog on ebay* for a few bucks

*if they were donating the profits I could possibly see this as being ok ... but they don't.Well they didn't till I pulled out the whistle & blew the thing as loud as possible.

Laws were passed here that thrift stores masquerading as "boutiques" had to be labelled as such.

So yeah bit of a bummer that you had to come up against someone with actual knowledge & experience of these organisations right?

Some people simply don't know what can be used or not though and they can't exactly be faulted for thinking about donating rather than heading straight for the landfill.
