I needed a pair of tin snips for work to cut some metal bands on a crate, so I went to the local Menards Friday morning and purchased a pair.

Well, I needed some kind of cutters to open the damn packaging! So...........
I used what I had.............

Doh! I hate the new packages....they don't want you to get to the product. To hell with theft proof, those suckers are everyone without a blowtorch proof.

You should use scissors next time though (even though that's a PITA too). Hope you're ok.

It appears there was no damage to tendons or nerves. Just gotta keep it clean and dry so it heals up. Should have stitches removed in ten days.

I was sitting in my car when it happened. so I grabbed a couple napkins from the door pocket and held pressure on the laceration with my thumb on the same hand. I was close to an urgent care center so I drove right over and got stitched up. That is after filling out a bunch of paperwork.

Oh yeah, had to get a tetanus booster!

Yes I did!

The funny thing is, the knife went in and came out so fast that there was not a drop of blood on it. I was a little concerned when it happened that I might have lost the function of that finger, which would have really sucked for guitar and sax playing! But it seems all will be well.

Yeah, the soreness in my shoulder from the tetanus shot is actually worse than any pain from the injury.

I did the same thing, but was using an exacto knife
almost cut the top of my index finger off.

They need to go back to using Cardboard boxes
instead of that plastic that is stronger than steel

Safety tip when using a knife: never put hand/fingers in the way you cut, only above.

Ouch mang! Hope it heals quick. I cut my left index finder's very tip off several years ago. This lady was near by and says to me, "don't worry, I have some special salve". We went to her apartment, she put some of this goop on it, closed it (it was hanging by a little of nothing) wrapped it up and said "leave this alone for a few days". I said "that shits just going to fall off and die", she said "bet me". 10 years later, it's a nifty little "pad" on the end of my finger that no one would ever notice but is a great guitar string callus.

Glad to here everything will be ok... I cut my pick thumb a few months back and severed the nerves in it.. Not fun to say the least. Needless to say I had to relearn how to pick because I have no feeling in it now...

On a side note, I bet when they injected the Novocaine in your finger that woke you up....

If this thread teaches just one person to aim a knife like they would a gun, it's a great public service. After not one but two rather embarrassing near disasters, I always stop and check my trajectory before slicing.

Oh, and keep your knives sharp. A clean cut heals much better than a ragged one.
