My dog busted at Wal-Mart

Early this morning we went to Wally World. I have a harness on public enemy #1 locked into the seatbelt receptical. She stepped on it, unlocked it and jumped out the window. A lady picked her up inside Wal-Mart and put her back in the car. I went outside after I was done and was met by Wal-Mart managers. They were laughing saying the dog got out and was roaming the store. The front seat was now full of doggie treats. They stayed to make sure she did not jump out again. I thanked them, no problem.

She did this before a few days ago at the Gas station and I thought it was just a freak accident. Not so. She can do it at will now. I will have to do something different now I guess. People love pets, mostly, and I was glad for the help.

Got any stories about your pet breaking free?

Re: My dog busted at Wal-Mart

Several.

Rufus my old huskie was a pro at it, I swear he could break out of Alcatraz!

He managed to break out of his create by bending the bars just enough so the lock slipped the catch, he then ripped out the nailed up cat flap.. through the smallest gap possible.

I had a phone call from my friend asking where I was and if I'm coming round. I explain I'm at work and why? He mentioned Rufus just waltzed into his house.. I asked him to lock him up in the garden and I'll pick him up after work. I got there after work and found he tunneled out of the garden;

I had to pick him up from the Police station.

The second time he escaped from a now solid create padlocked and zip tied, he then opened the bathroom window (God knows how) and jumped out.

I did not take her to Wal-Mart. I did not buy her shoes. I did not put her through check out. She just loves to ride in the car and look at the people.

Re: My dog busted at Wal-Mart

Dogs are smart and once they figure something out they stick to it I would suggest not leaving your dog in the car anymore unless your tether him/her . We have thos decortive type of lever doorknobs wher eyou don't twist it like you do normal doorknobs, you just lift it up or down. I have had 4 dogs over the years and everyone of them figured out how to get back in the house by themselves. Funny they never figured out that it works the same way if they want out lol, they just sit at the back door, scratch it and if no one hears it they start whining

I know. Dogs are smart and they love their freedom, especially if they can show us they are not dumb either.

Yeah! always a step ahead this one. My old husky cross Laika was a very smart pooch but in a different way, she was just very calculated.

Rufus is a scamp, but he figured out everything very quickly, very observant dog.

I think sometimes we underestimate their intelligence.

Smart dog. I remember a friend's boxer (don't remember the name) would open the fridge and take out sausage, cheese, meat, even broccoli.

Have you taught any tricks to yours? Maybe you could teach her to play the strings while you do chords?

Not once in that entire post is their mention of your dog being well known at wall mart. Also, you said that a lady picked her up inside Walmart. How was I to know that this same lady also saw her get out of the car? It was neither written in the post, nor implied. I'm sorry, but that last line of your post was unnecessary. Perhaps you had better read it again before you question my reading skills.

Re: My dog busted at Wal-Mart

I leave my dog in the care all the time. She goes damn near
everywhere with me. Back windows are both down, front windows partially down. People ask if I'm worried about my car getting stolen

Look in the back seat, 80lb shepherd, I dare you to steal it

People in my area will actually call the police if they see a dog in a car alone.

Still no answer to this I see. Disappointing.

Anyway, not my dogs but my father's. He adopted two Weimaraners when they were pups. One is really well behaved, but the other one is a bit hyper and tends to be a bad influence on the first. He lives in a big five bedroom (11 rooms total) house alone with the dogs. As he lives there himself, one or two of the rooms are a little underfurnished. He decided to leave them in a room at the back of the house that has nothing but gym equipment. He bought a "dog cage" and leaves them in that when he goes to work.

One night, he is driving up the driveway and sees one of the dogs pop it's head up in the window at the front of the house. He thinks to himself "oh no" and goes in the house to assess the damage. His exercise bike is now missing half a seat. The dogs chewed up the other half. His weights gym bench is also thoroughly chewed.

The dogs managed to open the heavy door despite the fact that it opens inwards. They clawed some of the furniture and doors. I actually think it was quite funny. Then again, perhaps it is because he hasn't really made any time for my sister and I since he got them.

Mine did not make it that far I guess. I will have to get a new doggie restraint system.

I was working at a house back in the 70's and they had this German Shepard. A dog was in heat accross the street and it chewed the metal door knob off. He was a spectacular animal. I played with him at lunch time and the "stick" he brought me was a log, and he could crunch the ends with those powerful jaws!

She does not run away from me, just the opposite. She stays with me all the time. To train a dog to do this it needs leash training. By that I mean the dog is not to pull or tug on the leash and to have it walk beside you at all times.

Thats so dawgie criminal! I was at our Lake Texoma and went in to a BBQ joint one day. My black lab couldn't stand the smell of the place, without me I guess. It was a warm day but not hot and I had left the windows cracked. So when it got the best of him he decided to come beggin, and went thru the passenger side window, shattered glass and a very aroused 90 lb lab was there to greet me.

Why leave the window open enough that the dog can get out of?
Surely 4 partially opened windows would be best and the dog wouldn't be able to get out.
