I got a foolish idea in my head

So...

I've worked like a mutt for about 30 years in several different professions... Mostly as a Photographer and a BMW mechanic... But I've dug ditches, flipped burgers and shoveled chicken shit when I had to in between.

Someone (in here) mentioned "do what you love"... Hmm...

Well, I love guitars more to the point I love building guitars (Some day I'll write the story about building guitars and how I flunked my sophomore year in high school)...

At any rate after ploinking on the guitar I just finished someone has hit me with a (loosing) business proposition...

Considering the plethora of fine guitar builders fighting for a tiny slice of a dwindling market...

Ah, the perfect attitude for a sucessful business.

Sorry, but do not combine a rational and realistic evaluation of a business possibility with pessimism. If you do you might as well forget it now.

Weigh the pros and cons, do some market research, find a way to open the door without closing too many behind you. If you can make it work, it could be very rewarding.

Actually this is all coming about because for about the past 30 years I could never find that ONE guitar...

I mean... I love my Les Paul Standard... And my '98 Special... And my Telecaster... But every damn guitar I've ever picked up had an integral flaw.

If I was going to have THAT guitar I'd have to build it myself... So I just did.

One thing led to another and...

Yes, I've always been a pessimist and I get what you mean... I'm just at the beetling my brow point with this...

Never posted them anywhere... Hell haven't taken any... And now there is this possibility it will be the prototype of a limited production guitar (Like I don't have enough pans in the fire).

If you can do it, Daniel, do it. If you're too worried about it, and your gut feeling isn't screaming "Do it", then don't. But ultimately, if it makes you happy... it's up to you.

Yeah prolly... It's in the hands of my sleazily wannabe business partner at the moment but I'm going to have to bust it out and shoot it eventually anyway.

Wish you were closer I'd really like to have you play it and give me your opinion.

Re: I got a foolish idea in my head

Dunno if I see the market dwindling, Daniel... I mean, Fender's going public and you can't see a pizza commercial that doesn't feature a Stratocaster lurking in the background these days... these are images that are made to appeal to young people, too-- your future market, perhaps.

Not necessarily recommending that you sink your entire life savings into this venture... and you might even want to be careful about giving up your regular job. But I do see it possible to be successful at the venture you have in mind.

Best of luck with this!

Soon enough... Not going to be a shocking reveal of any mind blowing innovation... Just one that's put together the right way... No pantookas... Just bugs removed and the money and work spent where it counts.

Fits in a TKL 8825 like it's made for it.

I'm really going to have to speak to a Lacy Act and a Trademark expert right up front side though.

All righty then.

I do think any guitars you build will be quite awesome, though. I'm very excited. And considering I'm like a musical hermit waiting a little bit to take off like a rocket, if I had a guitar of yours and got anywhere with it, I'd send all my minions your way.

You and Rist are the only guitar-builders that have me seriously excited, and I've never even seen guitars of yours. Something about you intrigues me enough to get the butterflies going, though. Must be good juju.

Good god... Did you just mention Roman and me in the same sentence?

He's a master... I'm just the Village Idiot.

It's possible you'd hate it... I'd bet we have a wide gap in what we find desirable in an axe... But then again "Form and Function" reigns so you might like it.

I wasn't comparing you two. I know of very little guitar builders, is all. You've just got me excited to see what you build. Roman's got me excited because I'll be getting a guitar from him soon enough.

Re: I got a foolish idea in my head

Roman and Ron Kirn are my favorite builders.

It's art to them.

I respect and admire that.

Both dudes are salty and would laugh and say, "it aint art! It's a damn guitar!"

But when you see the love they put into it? Words fall short.
