OK, so WTF are bath salts???

Im just getting over my meth fascination, and now there's this crap. Are bath salts worse than meth?

They are supposed to be worst. From what I've read they are made from stuff you can buy anywhere. And they are really close in composition to common bath salts, manure, rat poison of certain brands and other home products. So it's legal to tag them bath salts and sell them everywhere under that name.

Just like those orange juices that claim they are made with real orange because 1% of them is orange tree trunk.

They are legal in some states and can be bought at about any head shop where it is legal. It is also a term used to disrupt entire threads by posting these two words in succession with one another over and over and over and.....

To answer the question. Bath Salts are a stimulant and are in the "designer" drug class. They are labled as "Bath Salts" and "not fit for human consumption" to evade the law. They have dubious affects on the central nervous system. These include paranoia,suicidal thoughts, extreme stimulation,etc. These are dangerous for those reasons and because the full affects of these drugs are not fully understood.

These are 'bathtub' drugs (no pun intended) and the 'labs' they originate from are dubious at best.

I'll stick with "wine,women,and song" thank you very much.

a few weeks ago the county sheriff raided and temporary shut down just about every gas station in the dumpy town i work in because of the salts. the best was to watch people trying to get gas because the price jumped about $0.30 and the signs on the closed stations had remained unchanged.

Let's see. There are items one can buy at convenience stores, smoke shops, and liquor stores that are labeled "not safe for human consumption." However, my "friends" say I can get high on them. They're made by some guy in his kitchen, or garage. I'LL PASS. It's never a good idea to ingest substance made by someone who failed high school chemistry.

How can you work for NYPD and not already know about bath salts, or have 500 people with actual experience with them to ask about them?

Joey-- this is some crap that showed up in head shops and various convenience stores a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if you smoke it, ingest it orally, or how you do it up, because I never had the inclination to try any. Not sure if it's a stimulant because I haven't checked, but I figure DH is probably on the money about that. It sure does sound like a stimulant-- or at least, a hallucinogen that has stimulant properties.

DH is correct about it being in the "designer drug" category, which mainly indicates that it's either a chemical that hasn't been made illegal (yet), or it is an analog of some other chemical that is illegal, but which varies in its structural characteristics enough that it cannot be proscribed by means of the laws that are already on the books.

The first I heard of it was in Louisiana, a couple of years ago, and IIRC there was some sort of violent crime that brought everyone's attention to the stuff, which was apparently purchased at a gas station in Slidell. Louisiana made that stuff illegal nearly overnight, and I was surprised to find that it was still legal in Florida-- but then, you know how we Floridians can be...

Not sure how it compares to methamphetamine, really.

Rule to live by with drugs...If it isn't naturally generated in nature use EXTREME caution and if it IS generated by nature use EXTREME caution. Anything that alters conciousness by chemical means has the potential to cause consequences. As we all know there are VERY bad people out there that don't give a SORA about their fellow man. The 'people' that create these drugs are of that ilk.

Bath Salts are a synthetic stimulant (including mephedrone and methylone). These are closely related to amphetamines and are similar to ecstasy.

I never claimed to work for the city

I come to MLP to ask my actual experience druggie questions, people in my actual social circles generally don't get high very often.

Def the salts aren't illegal but they are becoming enough of a problem that the LEO's are seizing them on drug raids, where they are going after crack, meth, cocaine, etc..

This seize contains bath salts and synthetic pot...

The rising issue from the bath salt dilemma is that dealers are substituting more harmful chemicals than what is found in the salts. People think they are getting salts but are actually getting fertilizer, rat poison's, and other nasty shit..
