Anyone but Mannix!

I'm a sap and like MacMillan and Wife.

Then again, Colombo

Jim Rockford rules though!

Yeah, I grew up in the seventies and sixties.

Re: Classic TV Cops / Detectives

columbo > rockford > s&h were my 3.

i have every columbo series on dvd (the ones that have been released) and downloaded all the tv/vcr ripped ones that kind people have hosted to the web. he is king.

jim rockford #2, great show, and he drove the 'les paul' of the motor world. a gold firebird. '70s rocked.

Re: Classic TV Cops / Detectives

My 2c, the reason that columbo is so good is because, its never a 'whodunnit', its a 'HowsHeGonnaGetem'. Its the fact that the show is more angled towards seeing smug murderers gradually get less and less sure of their position.

Most shows are based on scripted story, where anything can be written as plot and any clue and subsequent 'key' in the plot can simply appear at any time.. Columbo is very unique in its structure. All the pieces are placed on the table at the beginning of each show (the first 20 minutes or so never actually feature columbo himself). There are times when columbo (first name frank btw ) never appears for > 30 mins, in some of the longer shows.

for my money, its not only the best detective show, but could be the best tv show ever made... even tho some of the later seasons were a bit naff.

Good summation. He's so sneaky about how he nails them too... let's them think he's buying their BS, then as he's leaving... turns back around and says "Oh.. there's just one more thing..." Then BAM, you just got Columbo'd, bitch!
