Looking back at his 3rd term election, there was really no other sensible choice. I wonder if no one else really anted the job? He threw SEVERAL million dollars at his re election campaign. Wonder how many people got paid to not run.

We blow up the banks.

If there's no money

1. All forms of government can go f**k themselves.

2. People will actually have to work for what they need no more self entitled bullshit.

Wow I said that as a joke but the more I play it through my head the better it sounds.

Re: UN says we don't need "More Cars, More TV, Whatever"

My old RCA TV was made in the eighties - at 26" it was HUGE for its time.
The only flat screen anything I own is on my laptop.

Our cell phones draw giggles from kids because they are so ancient.

Both my GM trucks have 200,000 miles on them.

I don't even have a credit card - cash for everything.
Guitars, guns, even vehicles.

I avoid feeding money into banks at every opportunity in the way of fees, interest, etc.

I buy American whenever possible, and avoid Chinese goods unless I absolutely have no choice.
I'm willing to do without too - I've placed Chinese goods that I thought I needed on the shelf and walked away.

Anybody here willing to consider that THIS is really the issue?

Oh, sure, the mall-crawlers number in the millions and credit card debt for frivolous bullsh!t is in the billions.
But when FREE people choose to spend their money, NOBODY has a right to tell them otherwise.

Let's talk about the money confiscated through taxation and then pissed away around the world?
Then let's compare this to voluntary charitable donations that people give willingly.
This goes (much more often) to people actually on the ground and in the sh!t where these suffering people are.

The UN headquarters is a big building.
Joey, how many poor starving Africans could live disease and predator-free in there?
Thousands, I'm sure.

Re: UN says we don't need "More Cars, More TV, Whatever"

I think the UN HQ should relocate to a country that appreciates it's existence more. I'm thinking perhaps Nigeria, in downtown Lagos. Or Kinshasa, in the Congo, or perhaps Rangoon. The UN could then be closer to it's real constituents. The delegates could mingle every day with the kind of people it's trying to help. Why spoil themselves in an over-developed, consumerist metropolis where people don't even appreciate the privilege of having such an august body on their soil? It must be difficult for members of the UN to cope with the incredible disparity between where they are headquartered and where they actually do their good works. The UN should relocate to where it's most needed and will feel most welcome.

Seems only fair to me.

I'm a big fan of the UN...in principle. We should be getting together and working together as rational people to solve the world's problems. Talking it out instead of bombing each other, and all that.

Just wish the UN would live up to its mandate. As it stands, it ain't.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Security Council vote rule overhaul. One nation holding veto power is even crazier than the Senate's filibuster rules.

I'm totally cool with that, but it really irks me that the Security Council now includes member nations that have no business being on the Council in the first place.

Us, the Russians, the Chinese, the English, the French, and (in my opinion...) the Indians, and that's it. If you can't destroy the world, you don't belong on the UNSC.

It all seemed so much more sensible during the Cold War. WTF, did I just say that?

Life was simpler, because we knew who "they" were. Good times. I especially miss the nights when the Rooskies would launch a fractional orbital bomb test from Baikonur, and we'd all huddle around the receivers watching the main telemetry signal go overhead, then wait hoping like hell we didn't see that signal again, because that would mean a second orbit and that would mean a state of war would exist and that would mean a nuke with our address on it was 12 minutes away. But the Rooskies always dropped the vehicle back onto the steppes just in time -- just kidding!!!! -- leaving a number of sigint troopies in Korea, Thailand and Diego Garcia and the pilot warming up Air Force 1 in serious need of a drink.

At least the Soviets were not crazy enough, or fanatical enough to actually push the "big red button" for real. Not like the crazies out there now.
