Re: Have any mortal enemies?

I had one, in business. When I hired on at the framing shop, I had to start as a framer, although I had six years of management experience, because my experience was at a porn shop and I couldn't get the time of day from anyone for a management position ... so I had to start over, pretty much.

Anyway, my boss was a dick. Yelling at employees, talking-about-employees-behind-their-backs-to-coworkers dick. Talking-to-me-like-I-was-a-dog dick. Hired his dumber-than-a-stack-of-bricks girlfriend, the whole kit-and-caboodle.

Dick.

So I'm asking him for more hours and he refuses to give me any, because, he says, "they're not available" -- wouldn't give me a chance despite the fact that I worked any schedule, overtime, holidays, etc. Come in on short-notice if someone called in sick.

Working my ass off, trying to earn a fair shake.

I'm closing up one Sunday night when Lillian, the assistant manager, comes to me with the payroll paperwork. "D, take a look at this." Turns out Dick had been padding the payroll with his girlfriend, paying her for twenty-four hours -- three shifts -- that I knew for a fact she didn't work. Those were the hours he refused to let me earn.

Lillian was afraid to say anything, but not me. I called HR up the next day and within two weeks he was gone.

And I'd do the same thing again. Except this time, I'd tell him that I fvcked him over and good, just to see the look on his face.

Other than that, no. But I hate a thief, and I especially hate a thief who is blocking my path.

Sorry about your father River.

Fortunately both of my parents had/have their affairs "in order" so when my Dad passed unexpectedly in 2001 my mother had very few loose ends to deal with. I've followed their example.

Don't ever deny the other sides of your character. If you do, they'll rise up and kill you.

Thank you, sir.

My father and I have been estranged for quite some time (my lifetime, pretty much), which is one of the reasons I don't want to start a "woe is me, Dad died" thread.

But these events affect you, and they underscore where your responsibilities lie.

And when those people are your neighbors, and their motives are based on "higher purposes", you're lucky you don't end up dead.

Most people don't understand what most of these words mean. And that's, essentially, a good thing.
