For those that don't like Large image files...

It seems the Joe Bonamassa thread just got shut down as I was having a discussion about picture size with a few members... not sure that was the reason but my point for this thread is to ask why all the fuss over people posting large pictures.

I for one don't use a photo account like PhotoBucket, etc. I keep the pics in folders on my server and would have to manually resize them or go through extra steps vs. just posting a direct link to my pics using the IMG tags.

Why should the poster have to do the extra work (assuming he has warned the viewers to expect large images)... if the viewer wants to see them then they see 'em the way the poster offers them and they say Thank You... otherwise, move on to another thread and life goes on happily for everyone.

P.s. I was viewing the Joe thread on an Acer laptop with 3GB RAM, using wireless home Internet connection (Brighthouse) and was NOT using my desktop PC with 19" monitor. No performance issues (maybe 5 seconds to load the Joe page with the big pics) and so I have trouble understanding how these can "crash" somebody's system... my laptop is 3 years old (certainly not a speed demon or anything special by today's standards). Oh, I use Firefox 12... not sure if that makes any difference.

Re: For those that don't like Large image files...

I resize all of the images I post on MLP before uploading them to the Gallery. I want everyone who's interested to see the whole pic at a glance.

Thanks nicolas for posting those photos! I haven't seen them all before, and they make excellent pc backgrounds. Lotta nice guitars too. Love 'em! The bigger the photos, the better for saving. You'd have to have an antique pc with Windows 3.1 for those photos to hurt it. Funny!

Re: For those that don't like Large image files...

For those using a mobile device, large pictures are a hassle. Waiting for the pic to load, then having to scoll down 5 times really sucks.

I always upload to Flickr and post the medium size images. That seems to have worked well for me on multiple forums.

I believe most of the picture complainers were non-Bonamassa fans who had overdone their stay in that thread anyway. Let's face it, how many threads stay open that contain huge photos of women?

Re: For those that don't like Large image files...

I prefer moderate images. If you post a large image which is wide across the screen then the thread itself is made wider, meaning that everything has to horizontally scroll.

I was not in the thread but that is my understanding. Just make them a decent size and provide a link to hi-res if you must. That is my opinion.

Scrolling up and down and side to side just to view a picture is silly.

I think it's more likely that any complaints were the result of personal contempt for Nico.

I understand the one guy being attacked by the majority thing, but they should at least wait for the right time to attack. Photos? Kind of funny. That whole thread was loaded with insulters against an artist. But that was okay I guess.

I nearly posted in that thread to complain about the images myself, but Nico was getting enough shit already from everyone else, and I happen to like the guy, so I let it go.

As for the insults against Smokin' Joe, well...his response to the critic's article was very ill-advised, and if you remember the beginning of the thread, more than one person pointed out that he was essentially inviting more criticism. I expect to see even more of that in the near future.

Yeah, as I had said, it was a bad move on Joe's part. The problem with JB sometimes is that he gets too involved, with fans and with the media. As a pro, he should have just ignored it. He let the journalist get the better of him. Not good.

Re: For those that don't like Large image files...

On some devices, the display gets auto-resized to fit the largest picture on the page. As a result, the text is so small a Hawk couldn't read it.

For many of us living outside the greater Los Angeles area, and not having moved to South Korea yet, bandwith/load time is also an issue, although that's not strictly about photo dimensions - that's about file size.

Then you've got the same out-sized photo being quoted fifteen times per page.

This from a guy with dual 28" monitors: photos over 1024x768 are pretty much a waste of everyone's time. It's common courtesy to provide reasonably-viewable images, carriage returns, and line feeds.

It is, but some threads deserve HD photos and other threads where courtesy went down the drains, i don't think so....

Re: For those that don't like Large image files...

I was the first to make a comment. I don't have anything against JB and my comments had nothing to do with him. I just find it annoying when my internet takes a poop while it loads 20 insanely oversized photos. The detail wouldn't have been lost had Nico posted pictures half the size they were. Large pictures would have been enough.

Not to mention, it's obvious he was doing it to annoy certain people in the thread.
