I drive like an old woman, and I'm damned proud of it!

Yup!

I live in an area where there are no straight roads. Lots of hills, lots of turns, lots of 2 lane roads with people haulin' ass down 'em with abandon.

I drive around the speed limit...maybe a bit above it. It pisses people off behind me. You know what? Screw 'em. A lot of times I have my gear in the back, and I don't want that crap flyin' around. I'm not gonna get there that much faster by trying to kill myself around every corner. At night it's a double bonus because deer come out, and they don't travel solo.

A lot of people are nice, but put 'em behind a steering wheel..they become a$$holes. Hell, maybe I'm one too. But at least you won't get killed by me....unless you decide to rear end me which is fine because that would always be a nice settlement in court.

I don't run over pedestrians either. I keep mah eyes on the road.

So...yeah, this is a reverse rant! I drive like an old woman because I like my car, I like my driver's license, and I don't like speedin' tickets. Kiss mah guitar playin' ass, ya bunch of speed demons!

Not really. Sometimes someone will jump right on my ass...if I'm in my work truck I'll start swerving and randomly hitting my brakes to see if they're paying attention.

Stated...someone rear ends me...unless they can prove I was doing something wrong in court will get their asses handed to them. And these people are f'ing stupid too. We're not talking poor people here...we're talking a lot of rich c'suckers with Mercedes cars or high end SUV's.

PS: The roads here really aren't meant for driving fast. There is not 1 straightaway for more than a mile anywhere in my area. There are a lot of head-on collisions and at least a few motorcyclists die every year up here.

Re: I drive like an old woman, and I'm damned proud of it!

I don't break the limit, but i will admit, i do drive on it (ie, 10% over, rarely more). What i do hate is people who drive 10mph under the limit... that's a sure way to cause accidents (it's actually as bad as speeding according to the DVLA, and you can risk fines too).

Tailgaters do my head in too. I never tailgate, as it's obviously dangerous, and i don't want the front of my car to be peppered with stones kicked up from the vehicle in front. On motorways, if i'm driving on the upper limit, i'll obviously change lane and allow the speeders to overtake, but on urban or single lane/slow roads, and they're on my ass, i briefly flash my rear fogs. They think it's the brake lights and take the hint to back off, and it always seems to work.

Martin,

I actually drive on average 5-7mph over the speed limit, and I still get tailgaters. They're freakin' idiots.

Me too. I get better mileage, and I am not strung out upon arrival.
I am not obliged to exceed the speed limit for jackoffs that are too stupid to plan their time, or want to emulate their Nascar heros on the public roadways.
Every time I hear that mantra about alcohol being involved in 40% of fatal accidents I wonder what the percentage is for excessive speed for the conditions. They spend a lot of money here proclaiming that you will get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, but obviously do not do much to enforce the speed limits.

I get in a hurry at times, and don't drive really smart. I get angry at people going slow or even the speed limit at times. I am wrong. Driving safely, which generally means the speed limit or slower, is always right.

I am getting better. Mostly it helps to realize, that on most jaunts around town, I ain't savin' but a few minutes, by drivin' like a mad man. I just gotta calm down. I'll get there.

No worries, you're relatively normal Sent. Old ladies drive half the speed limit.

There's nothing better than trapping a jack-off weaving in and out. Dudes are ready to rip their roof open like a sardine can.

Yep, I too am a super-cautious driver(most of the time ). My kids used to kid me about it.
All it took for me was one head-on collision at 60 mph.
Crested the top of a hill on a country lane and some douche in a pickup was turning left across my lane.It was not an entrance he was turning into, they had just taken down some fenceplanks to get to a barn. Flipped his truck and totaled my t-top Mustang(sob). Sustained nerve damage in my left leg, but was very lucky.(did't have my seat belt on either)! The car was crumpled around me like I was in a protective bubble.
Don't want to jinx it, but haven't had an accident since,1982.
Drive safely now. Thanks OP!

Re: I drive like an old woman, and I'm damned proud of it!

I agree... I say fvk em

I was driving my wife home from the Hospital a week or 2 ago. It was Mothers day also. We had just went to the grave to see my ma. The wife had got out of teh hospital literally a few hrs ago.
I had to drive slow as every bump I hit crumpled her in pain.

So I pull out of the grave, onto the main road and this bag licker gets right on my ass. I had to drive slow anyhow, but I slowed down. We had a set of train tracks to go over and I knew I could exploit that and come to a crawl.

He stayed right on my a$$.. I lost it. Stopped dead in the road. I started flailing my arms. pass me coc$sucker. Im saying.

He stays there. I start to open my door.. he drives around me.. Shoots me the finger and I spit at him and engage him in a verbal assault from hell.

I would have killed at that moment to protect her. PEOPLE ARE GOOFS/

Carry on. Sorry for the rant.

I will do that. When people tail me. I typically don't let it bother me one iota. I usually just slow down and they get the point.

When I think of someone driving like an old woman, I picture them not using turn signals...stopping unexpectedly in the road, turning abruptly without warning, weaving across lanes and they're head barely sticking up over the steering wheel....and wearing too much bright red lipstick.

On the east side of Kansas City, there are a lot of nice twisties that you hardly ever see cops in. If I'm bored I'll him 'em, not as fun because I'm not in a car that really handles, but I get some joy from it anyway.

I drive like a bat out of hell.
If your dragging-ass in front of me, it wont be long
before I fly by you, and, you see nothing but a big, grey, blur

And, my middle finger hanging out the window signaling your #1 in my book

You really cannot blame me for this, you must blame the city where I live.
Or, you can blame me, which will get you that "your #1"" signal again

A dude flipped me off a few weeks ago. I was on my way to work, and most people drive 65+, even though it's 55, because there's never any cops. There was a semi and a car in front of me though, so I couldn't go over 55. This big truck was about 3 feet off my bumper, so I brake checked him a couple of times. He didn't get the message, so just before I turned off, I slowed down to about 40.
