Your favorite thing about Rock and Roll
The "raunchy" guitar thread got me thinking... what is rock and roll to me? It's a question I never really asked myself, it's just something that I have felt subconsciencely. What is that one thing that stands out the most to me and says ROCK AND ROLL
![]() After a few minutes of thought it was pretty easy for me. Sure the "raunchy" guitar sound is awesome. It's naturally rock and roll because it's sloppy and naive. It's definitely up there... but for me, the one thing that really defines rock and roll for me are "ghost bends"

For me, it's the beat.
Rock may or may not have it. Rock and Roll always does. It's the Roll.

The emotion.
There is always a R&R song that helps me express myself. Not the words, but the music. .

Rock and Roll is simple. It has pimples. It is not self-conscious. It ALWAYS puts out.

It has provided generations of young outcasts with the raw tools and inspiration to rise above their place in life, and to reinvent themselves in a more pleasing and powerful form.

Re: Your favorite thing about Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll is Noise Pollution. I am a failed poet. Why? Because I was cocky? R+R= the cockier the better. Johnny Thunders= GENIUS! Ripping off the Stones. Hell, ripping off Jerry Lee Lewis. Stealing riffs. Smoking things. Drinking. Hot flashes. Tubes. Go on down to HIGHWAY 61 and pay the ferryman. He has WHITE skin.,,,,,,, White hair too.

Absurdity, simplicity, and genius can exist, thrive, flourish all at once.
Also, an open A5 chord.

That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you.

Re: Your favorite thing about Rock and Roll
Oh boy.. It's hard to describe.
Just the feeling I get when I listen to classic RnR is hard to describe. The groove, the swagger, the crunchy guitars, etc. It's just my kind of music. It's down and dirty. Raw and not 'perfect'. It can be sloppy at times. But it's the groove that locks it together. I'm a classic rock/rock n' roll purist - I fully admit that. There are very few Rock N' Roll bands these days. Lots of rock bands, though. I'm not a modern music fan except for a couple rare exceptions. Here are a few songs that I would say describe rock n' roll for ME. Now if we are talking songs about rock n' roll lifestyle, that's a different set of songs.

Re: Your favorite thing about Rock and Roll
For me, it's the truth. At least the truth as it's relative to the person speaking. It's a means of expression. And with it comes a lifestyle, and a love, and a communication and understanding with people.

The boobs that are exposed by wild rock show females.
![]() Seriously, I guess it is how it makes you feel. You can sing a song about all sorts of things and get many people to love it, but if you told your friends the same thing, they would go "dude wtf?" and " ." Rock makes your body move too, so rock feels good!

Re: Your favorite thing about Rock and Roll
My favorite thing about rock-n-roll is its refusal to apologize for itself. You either get it or you don't. No matter the actual sound of the musician, real rock-n-roll is to my mind characterized by a reckless disregard for convention, and contempt for the opinions of others.
