Re: Thinking of moving to... wherever.
Austin is cool; but not so much for teachers these days. In fact, even before they started laying off teachers, only UT grads got hired in the school districts. A&M grads went to Cedar Park and Round Rock. This I heard from someone struggling to get hired at Austin ISD.

Re: Thinking of moving to... wherever.
I think we looked and there were no postings up that way, at least that we could find. Vancouver would be awesome, I've heard great things about it. Hell, I'd live in Alaska if it got us out of here.

Well, I've always liked the idea of Alaska: mountains, lakes, bears. Well, not the bears, but you know what I mean.

Wherever is nice, but have you thought about nowhere special?

Re: Thinking of moving to... wherever.
We've got some friends who are moving to the Outer Banks region of North Carolina. I think that's where we may be heading if some of the resumés we've sent pan out. Heck, to be honest, I'll go wait tables to get out of here.

Re: Thinking of moving to... wherever.
Kansas City is cheap to live in and there's some great music and good food, but there are parts of the city you need to make a point of avoiding. And there are some great areas in the city and not the suburbs, but if you live in them, your kids will still be going to the same unaccredited schools as the kids from the places you want to avoid so... Don't come here. Lol. I'll probably move back to KC to settle down, but really, our crime rate is as bad as Chicago and this place is headed towards being the new Detroit. Money has been leaving downtown and the city proper for some time now, and this place is absolutely bleeding. The burbs are a good place to be, but you do lose the sense of being in a city.

Re: Thinking of moving to... wherever.
That's what we're thinking. Housing costs are about the same but the job market seems much more booming out in NC right now. We'll see! Thanks for the well wishes!

Re: Thinking of moving to... wherever.
I would consider "No Particular Place" as well---

Re: Thinking of moving to... wherever.
Honestly, if I could drop off the grid, disappear for a year or two, I would, but I'm so connected I feel like I'm everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

You know my deal--Right? We are heading out for a 5 week exploratory mission to see if there is any place that makes us want to pack up and move- I am just weeks away from quitting my job of 22 years--I can't do this shit anymore- My wife's career is in nowheresville and I am tired of working for such a large, POS company- The money is not worth it anymore-I want a life and a HOME--- I am willing to make much, much less if we can have a decent, somewhat normal life--

Re: Thinking of moving to... wherever.
Yeah, I saw that. Good on ya, man. I'm just wanting to settle somewhere and live. It seems for 8 years since we've been married the wife and I have just moved all over Arkansas and never found a place we wanted to stay. For the first time we're actually not tied down by anything, so it's time to leave.

I know. Being married to a Japanese citizen, I am eligible to apply now. I will. It's always nice to have options.
