Severe Depression...

I am really having a tough time handling this.
It's the worst I've felt my entire life.

Most of you don't even know me and that's why
I chose to post this here.

Do you guys know how to handle this? I just need some
friendly advice.

No, I can't go and see a professional for personal reasons.

I wish I had something better to contribute than this but you HAVE to get help. I hope things work out for you.

Re: Severe Depression...

I have struggled with this all my life, and still do. What helps for me is FORCING myself to walk in nature, listen to music, doing social things (yuk). Get plenty of sleep, eat well. It is a huge effort, but it turns around.

This is the advice I would give you. My mom was basically saved because of professional help.

Getting out, and getting active, are great remedies.

Re: Severe Depression...

There's no reason not to seek help, doctor, clergy, counselor or other.
Untreated, the results can be disastrous.
You must speak to somebody, there are support groups that are anonymous.
Please seek help.

Good Luck man.

Would it help for you to participate in the things that usually give you pleasure and make you happy?

Playing music, fishing, golfing, etc...

You need to be around people.

Talking to us here is a good start.

I've been there. I thought pills were wrong,no more. I like my anti-depressants. Not "drugged" at all, just even. Good luck.

You're always welcome to talk me, Vast. Myself and many friends and acquaintances of mine have had issues with this and discussed it. I know I'm younger, but there may something I could offer you, man. It always gets better. You have to do what makes you happy, and say the things you need to say.

I've had my own issues. What helps is realizing that most likely there's always someone out there experiencing something much worse, so try to help them first if you can. If you feel like sharing anything through PM, I am always here.

Vast, if you can get out of bed and post, caring enough about yourself to reach out, your fingernails are already gaining purchase on the edge of the pit.

Go for a walk. Preferably, downhill out and uphill back.

I've had it before. To say its miserable wouldn't even scratch the surface. I don't know that you should try to get out of that alone, my man. Partly because what put you there is carrying too much alone as it is. I think it would just add to your troubles.

You've already made the most important decision in seeking professional help.

Untill then remember, you are not alone in feeling this way, it does get better.

Re: Severe Depression...

From my experience as both a patient and a caregiver, talking to a therapist and seeing a psychiatrist are the best things you can do to help yourself heal. Exercise, playing your guitar, and being in the sun will help as well. No matter how much you may feel like it, know you're not alone. There will be good days and bad days, but it will get better.

Re: Severe Depression...

I can attest to the power of medicine when it comes to this. About 4 years ago I was in a very, very dark place. Drinking heavily. Crying in the car on the way to work in the mornings. Going to see the doctor and taking medicine was probably the best thing I've ever done for myself.
