Sorry, there is a huge and easily discernable difference between little kids playing pretend at home, and that "Toddler Tiara" deal (which is incredibly disturbing and wrong on TOO many levels).

Re: Toddler Allowed to Wear Makeup in Public

I see yet again some people either did not read the article or just do not comprehend..

This isn't sitting at home playing makeup in the bedroom or living room, it's putting makeup on a 4yr old then taking her out in public, out to eat, to the mall or wherever..

It's fine if they want to get all made up at home but to slap warpaint on a child like she's some barroom slut then taking her out in public is just not right. Yeah that's healthy for a child alright. I'm sure by the time she turns 11 she'll be dating 18 and 19 yr olds..

Toddlers WITH makeup are much hotter than toddlers WITHOUT makeup... (juuuuuust kidding!)

Did you miss the mother saying that "most people can't even tell she's wearing makeup"? or that she doesn't do eyeliner or anything severe. That makes me believe she's putting on a little blush, maybe some eyeshadow and "playing" makeup. Yeah, WE didn't pay attention.

I guess I have better things to get worked up about today.

I guess you didn't bother to read the original blog article on Mommyish.. It seems she isn't alone in this and while the mother who is the center of attention here, at least the makeup is subtle - unlike some of the comments made by other moms who describe their allowing their toddlers to go out in public wearing much much more makeup.

It's unhealthy to encourage a childs creativity? Kids at that age don't even comprehend what makeup really is. They certainly don't comprehend the complex sexual effects of it. At that age the only thing going through their head regardless of how much makeup is "I'm being like mommy!"

Re: Toddler Allowed to Wear Makeup in Public

A young girl wanted to play makeup with Mommy - this certainly must be the first time anything of the sort has ever happened.

This isn't one of those psycho Moms that puts her kid in a pageant to live vicariously through her, so who's it hurting?

Child pageants I incredibly dislike, I think they're disgusting and I can't say I'd be opposed to a ban. But this? This is nothing of the sort, this is a non-issue that some people on the internet (not here, the people mentioned in the original article) made an issue.

When she starts signing her kids up for pageants and starts giving her "go-go juice" to make sure she's amped up, then we'll talk. But it must be a slow news day for a little girl playing with makeup to be a big deal.

Try explaining that to all of the pervs, trolling around with "bags of candy", or "lost puppies".

Whether these parents like it or not, this is the basic constitution:

You really think a kidnapping-raping-pedophile is going to have any ****s left to give about whether or not their victim is wearing makeup or not?

Given that makeup on toddlers often makes them look older, or just plain silly, it's within possible reason that them wearing makeup makes them LESS desirable to pedophiles.

I doubt it? There are some pretty ****ed up people out there, that would use it as some sort of twisted, mental "justification".

Pedophiles aren't exactly known for being right in the head.

A lot of you are doing guilt by association. This isn't a crazy mom, this isn't heinous amounts of make up. It's probably small amounts just to "be like mommy". I used to wear cologne as a child, because my dad incorporated it into his "get ready" ritual.

If she was pounded on the make up it be one thing, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Re: Toddler Allowed to Wear Makeup in Public

I love hearing this from a bunch of dudes...

My sister and I did the same thing when we were that age. It's really not as big of a deal as people are making it. We liked wearing makeup as small kids because our mom wore it and we wanted to be like her. She never told us it was to make us prettier or make us feel better about ourselves...we were fking kids...kids don't comprehend that sort of thing at that age.

If she had told us ''you have to wear this out or nobody will like you'' or ''little girls have to wear makeup or they will never be pretty'' then yeah...it might have messed with out heads a little.

When we were kids it was fun to play with it, but even more fun when we got to go out with it on. If parents watch their kids, then there is not any more threat from 'pedophiles' than there is without the child having makeup on. In fact- I don't remember who said it, but I read another post about how the makeup makes the child seem more adult like, and therefore a turn off to pedophiles and for the most part this is actually true. I unfortunately dated someone a long time ago who ended up being a sick pedophile, and most of them do not what the child to have any adult qualities because it takes away from their 'thing' they have for them.

I think people blew this way out of proportion, the way they do most things now a days. I am not a fan of the kids pageant shows either, but this is nothing of the sort.

Oh, so we're not actually upset about THIS situation with mother and daughter, then. We're upset with people who are by a very small margin, doing the same thing and want to tart up their little ones for pageantry.

I get it. I was just thrown by her story in the OP and our discussion of that story.
