The intent of this second one was really to capture the movement of the truck and less the truck itself. I got the effect I wanted but an alternative might have been to capture the truck in motion against a still background. Given the speeds that might have been tricky though. Perhaps next time.

You can always use a slow shutter speed and pan with the vehicle... Not that you don't know that

Yeah I have done that before, like this?

The difficulty with the truck shot was that it was from a moving car. So I was actually moving relative to the background, not the truck. Panning would have killed both I think.

Yeah - the car shot is what I am referring to - But if you are pacing the vehicle like you describe, that would be tougher...

Tales from the riverbank, this afternoon (continued).

This Grey Heron was feeding on the Dorset Stour, UK, using the intriguing strategy of plucking its prey out of the air as fish jumped rocks to get further upstream.

Re: PHOTOGRAPHERS! Post em up

I once started a business photographing show horses, pets and farm animals. I lost a fortune, and sold all my stuff to pay rent-Had 2 4x5's, a bunch of Olympus OM's with all the associated junk and a portable studio. Also had to sell my '74 LP Custom at that time.

I just bought little Nikon digital (Coolpix 6100)l that I am really starting to love after having mastered a 4x5 Calumet view camera and carried that rock around for years...I just do stuff like this for my own amusement...
I'm happily retired.

Just remembered that I still have a complete Konica Autoreflex 35mm camera set, with lenses, flash, meters, etc, and several old rangefinder 35's. Never even look at them anymore.

I did track photography for quite a while. I plan to go back to it this summer. Here's some stock car action. I used to stand in some dangerous spots, but boy did that pay off sometimes
