There was a teacher who was killed at a bar here about 4 years ago because he spilt a beer on someone brand new Nike shoes.

Re: Nike

Actually, I must say, after looking up records for the most expensive baseball cards ever, it is kind of hard to complain about the cost of certain vintage/ custom guitars (I an at least play a guitar and get joy personally, and maybe even play for others and return the joy, while something like baseball cards just sit there).

If people want to spend $90,000 for a pair of shoes, fine, let them! Imo, it is silly, and for 90k I can swoop up any guitar I want pretty much, play it and enjoy it, then sell it to another collector some day. Just what i'd do with the money though.

Nope. But I personally would not do it, In fact even if Elvis, Orbison and Lennon came back from the dead to do a concert together, escorted by Jesus Christ, I would not pay that much for tickets.

But I WOULD pay $5000 for a stereo preamp!

Paying money for some collector, vintage piece is a different matter, in my opinion. It is not like all you have to do is wait a few months, and buy it new, off the shelf, like you can these shoes.

For tennis shoes/running shoes/cross trainers/all-terrain/whatever they're called shoes I buy New Balance. They strive to make 25% of their product in USA. All other shoes as previously listed I can find are made in China/Vietnam/Taiwan/etc...

They also fit GREAT. NB!!!!! N's!!!!!!

I bought some awesome Nikes in London when I went (don't think they had anything like them in the US at the time) and they say "made in Vietnam" on the inside!

So far, they hve at least lasted 1 whole year of daily use (30 minute walks) and some other time before then too, so they aren't too bad. Actually, they are pretty nice shoes.

You do realize that the shoes going for insane prices aren't you're normal Nikes right? They're limited editions, and just like any other LE, they're highly collectable. I look at these shoe collectors no different than any other collectors.

Nike apparently produced 1,200 pairs of these trainers, Nike isn’t selling them for 100k, their Desirability is what set the price, I don’t want them but others do. Gibson made about 1600, 57/60 LP’s almost on a par with these trainers in numbers, and they have gone for over $1,000,000, is a guitar worth that? It is to some I guess.

Wait, I have never see a burst go for over $1,000,000. Links?

Really? Just look around your house and look very closely . If you don’t purposely look at where everything you buy comes from I would bet you have things made in China.

I'd have to see that then.

And in that case, you are comparing a guitar that is rare AND celebrity owned, vs. just rare shoes- if these $90k shoes were actually owned by a great NBA player (like Michael Jordan) and were rare shoes at the same time, I think the price of the shoes would go up even more.

No it doesn’t matter, it was just an example of what people will do to acquire something they want.

If some people are willing to riot and kill for Chinese tennis shoes...imagine what they'll do if the entitlement checks stop coming...or gas prices hit $6...or food prices skyrocket. On the upside, the 99% will look spiffy protesting in their new Nikes with their new Chinese Iphones and Macs.

1. "When there are alternatives." And I would SELL a pair of shoes for $99,000 but I would not BUY a pair of shoes for $99,000.

2. And, PAFs sell for $2000-$10,000 a set. My pickups sell for $230-$450 a set. Even though you can get a nice covered set of SKATTERBRANES for $295, 70% of my sales are for Earthbranes at $395. For some reason most of my customers are not interested in my less expensive sets.

Like I said, pretty much all 'standard' tennis shoes/running/cross training/all-terrain/trainers are made in places like china/vietnam/taiwan. This includes all major brands. The shoes are still good since that's the standard.

Most of the highest bidders in those auctions had feedback ratings of 0-10. Seems fishy.

I have no knowledge of Hialeah FL. But the seller ended the auction because he made an "off Ebay" sale.

I am aware that you said that. Look at your Coffee mugs, cutlery, dining set’s and so on, not just electrical appliances.

I'm with you with buying, I just wish I had the foresight to pre order a pair.

But would you be able to sell them for that price if people’s appetite for them weren’t already wetted because of famous guitar players using PAF’s

Association is a powerful tool used by many manufacturers not just Nike.

Most of my stuff is old, that I bought decades ago. They are of high quality and they last. Since I am very poor now, (PAF sales notwithstanding) For my recent purchases (since I started my business) I buy old stuff from thrift shops, and I make a point of buying household wares, durable goods, even clothes, made in the USA in those thrift stores. Even most components of my stereo is US made. Now my electronics like CD players, cameras etc tend to be made in Japan. But yes, there a a few things made in China, like my cell phone and my computer.

I am quite a stickler. Sure plastic crappy toys and stuff I buy for kid's gifts are also made in China.

I do not go to Target or Walmart to buy a new Chinese made vacuum cleaner. I buy a 20 year old Filter Queen from a thrift store, for 1/2 the price of the new plastic piece of shit. In fact, I probably will never buy anything new again, except for food and supplies. (and underwear, unless it is Adriana Lima's used panties, but $9 is my limit for those).
