I bought one. I had a $100 gift card, and it couldn't be used online for the VALENTINE code deal, so I had to buy it in-store for the $399 price. Still, I'm pretty pleased. Went for the white LP version.

Solution for jack on the front (helps on the side, too).

Wire cutter/stripper, soldering iron, solder, 5 minutes of your time and this:

I actually use my right-angle on my Squier, too, because I don't like having a loop of cable hanging down from the jack. I just twist it a little so the wire will clear the dish which holds the jack.

Re: Wow. Pretty Cheap Deal on USA Melody Makers.

I am tempted to order one, but definitely need to try one out first. Looking at the pictures, I'm concerned about the placement of the volume knob. It looks like it may be a bit too far forward for the way I usually tend to play. May not be a dealbreaker, as I dig the MM for exactly what it is; a stripped down rock machine.

I'd buy it for $350. That's a great deal for a good playing guitar. If you believe the line of thought that Gibsons were made out of better wood way back when, it's hard to get a cheaper one.

Re: Wow. Pretty Cheap Deal on USA Melody Makers.

Saw this 299.00 deal on musicians friend. For a USA Gibson, nonetheless. Went straight to guitar center to play with one and was much impressed with the tone, and a very playable neck that allows for a variety of types of attack. I have a Vintage V100 icon, nice les Paul with good tone and a thin neck. Didn't think I'd like the fat 50's neck on the melody maker but I really do!

Guitar center matched the price, including a free Gibson gig bag. Out of there with a new Gibson Melody Maker and free Gibson soft case (a very nice soft case) for 325 total!

Spent a couple hours at home with my first Gibson and am in love with it. Plays and sounds great through either my Vox AC10 or Roland microcube.

Didn't think I'd ever own a Gibson, but am smiling now!

Re: Wow. Pretty Cheap Deal on USA Melody Makers.

I bought one. Thanks for the link! I bought a derek trucks SG recently and had to return it because it wouldn't stay in tune. Lets see how this one does for 1/6 of the Price. I just want a killer slide guitar. If it works out I might get another one and keep them both in G and D tuning.

$299 for a USA made Gibson?! No wonder I can't sell my P-90 version for $350. LOL. That's a helluva deal though.

Re: Wow. Pretty Cheap Deal on USA Melody Makers.

I ordered one (the Flying V model) yesterday for $299! I had been thinking of treating myself with something musical for Father's Day/my birthday for a while now, and I had been looking for something not too expensive, and this fit the bill perfectly!

I had my sights set on an Epi Wildkat (also $299, plus I don't have a P90s guitar), but when I saw the MM deal on MF, I saw the Flying V and showed it to my son. He is only seven, and he likes to play Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and his 'guitar' for those games is a Flying V. Needless to say, he was all for me getting it! From what I've read, those MMs are pretty light weight, so it would be an ideal guitar for me to share with him and get him playing a real guitar that doesn't feel like a ton of bricks to him. He already has his Squier Strat, but it is too heavy for him to play comfortably. So it's a win-win, plus it will ship on June 15th, just around the time for Father's Day and my birthday! I also never thought I'd own a Gibson, but it's on it's way!

They've got the "limited run" ones for right around $400 now. Pretty nice deal.

I was in the Denver GC (on corner Iowa and Colorado Blvds) and saw an SG "melody maker" style with one P-90 for $398!

Right above it on the rack was this one:

Gibson SG Special HH Electric Guitar | Musician's Friend

Which (in brown) came home with me for $549.

It's a great lil' ol' guitar with a fairly beefy and great playing neck, gets the SG "half-cocked wah" sound when cranked, and the intonation seems spot on. Baked maple board too. What's not to like?

I'm loving these cheap Gibsons.

Hat's off to Gibson for meeting the demand for low cost, good quality, made in the USA guitars.

Besides, Melody Makers might be "Bare bones" models, but they are bad ass guitars. I've owned a ton, and there are lots of real rock stars that have used them for years. They totally rock.

I'd personally take one over many "fancier" guitars any day.
