There were plenty of drops by multiple Patriot receivers throughout the game. I'm a big believer that no one play or one player can lose a game for a team (no matter how glaring or clutch the misstep was). Had the whole Pats team done a better job executing, no one would remember the missed catches.

I actually feel a little bad for him. In this day and age of diva receivers, he seems like a good guy who just goes about doing his job. The thing that gets me, is the Patriots were leading the game at the time of the drop. Plus, he was twisting, diving, and reaching for a pass that was a bit overthrown. To pin the loss on him seems silly to me.

Now, the pass and catch from Eli to Mario Manningham down the sideline was picture perfect.

I'm no WW fanboy but I love guys who excel at their trade with class and without calling much attention to oneself.

I didn't say first ballot and there is no set formula for receivers in the 'modern' era, but since becoming a full time player, he has arguably been one of the best receivers in the league over these past five years. 4 out of the last 5 years he has blown away the competition in YAC (he was 3rd in the season he wasn't 1st), which eliminates most of the 'Brady Factor' from the calculus. He's the only NFL player to have three consecutive seasons with at least 110 catches. He's 2nd all time in all purpose yards during his first three seasons (behind some guy named G. Sayers (sarcasm added)) in an era that doesn't see much all round yards. He's a four-time pro-bowler, led the league in receptions ('07 & '09), AFC receptions leader this past season and owns the record for the longest reception in NFL history (not that this one stat would play into one's induction to the hall). He's 1,500 yards shy of modern era HOFer, John Stallworth. If he only averages 60% of his past performance, for the next five years, he'll be in the top twenty of all time.

The biggest hurdle, other than staying healthy, that he will likely face is competition from other worthy candidates and the selection committee's stinginess when it comes to receivers.

I don't think that there is a team in the league that wouldn't be interested in Welker, if the opportunity arises.
