I guess it's a good thing he didn't take out the ink cartridge form his ball-point pen...

Geez...

The boy -- a fourth-grader described as a well-behaved and good student -- cried during the meeting with his mom, the deputy and the school's assistant principal.

He had no criminal intent in having the blade at school, the sheriff's report stated, but was suspended for at least two days and could face further disciplinary action.
Nice.

A kid in my area got suspended a couple of years ago. The offense? Holding a chicken strip like a gun.

You can put an eye out with a carelessly wielded chicken finger.

Isn't the pencil more dangerous than the sharpener? I've got a broken pencil lead stuck in my hand that has been there since I was 4. What about scissors?

This hurts my mind to think about...

This is stupid. Where is the common sense? The problem is we adults expect children to apply adult reasoning to their actions. Most of them have no idea they are doing anything wrong.

There are a few of us out there. It's weird eh? I can feel mine if I think about it, and it hurts sometimes. I should have gotten it taken out, but it's been in there for 25 years now...

I pulled mine out with tweezers when it happened, but I guess some of it was still in there. black dot right on the back of my hand. Mine has been there for... I guess 10 years now? I have a horrible conception of time. lol

It does still hurt occasionally, along with my scar on my neck, and the bend of my elbow where they dug for a vein once.

Or floors, you could trip! other students, they could give you a disease or worse, throw a chicken strip at you.

Or principals, they could paddle you! Or Telephones, they could be to loud and hurt your ears. Lockers? You might stand up and hit your head on an open one! Doors might close on your fingers, glass might break and fly into your eyes! Teachers might scrape the chalkboard and hurt your ears!!

"Oh Dear... We're doomed."

It all goes back to "Zero Tolerance" and the stupidity that involves.

Nobody in a position of authority will dare to make a judgement call anymore.
A principle could gather the facts (my wife's a 1st grade teacher) and make a decision regarding intent and collateral effects of other students.
Did anybody get hurt?
Was anybody frightened? - Did they actually have REASON to be?
Could danger have actually resulted from the kid's actions?
Was class disrupted?
Was there blatant misbehavior?
Were rules broken?

If NONE of those criteria are met, the principle could counsel the kid without making a big deal of it, and everybody who knew nothing about it never would.

The principle could THEN defend his action and be backed by the school board.
Problem is, school boards are the slimiest form of Communism in the United States.
The principal and teachers involved would be hung out to dry if a parent made a stink, cuz the board ain't never gonna do anything wrong!!!

So....
The principle gets out his little rule book to assign an infraction to the event and goes through the table to find the "appropriate" punishment listed.
He has no choice, he must go by the book.

Stupid mother-fxckers now have control of educating our children.
As a kid in Kansas, we all hunted pheasant when season opened in November.
A shotgun in a kid's car or pickup was common.

In 1980, we used a shotgun in a school play.
The teacher was not concerned in the least when the shotgun scene could be done with our REAL shotgun.
She made sure I had cleaned all the buckshot out of the 12 gauge shell I made a blank from, and there were no live shells there.
During rehearsal we kept the gun hidden backstage, simply so it would not be stolen.
Never worried about a crime being commited with it...

During the play the gun went BANG and I died onstage in a Monty Python-esque comedy.
It scared a few people in the audience, only because they didn't expect the noise.
Lotsa laughter - it went over great!
Afterwards, the gun went home.

NOBODY was worried in the least, nobody got hurt, we all behaved responsibly, a good time was had by all.

Kids are terribly handicapped these days, they can't make a single decision and learn if it's wrong.

When I was in third grade my friend got suspended because his mom packed him a dull metal knife for his apple in his lunch.
