Favourite British Guitarist/s not named Jimmy :)

A tip of the hat to Tim and a chance to say your favourite British guitarist (not including Mr Page ) just for a bit of forum fun! (that's what these funny forums are for isn't it?!)

Well, I love the tasteful leads of guys like Brian May and Dave Gilmore (Queen and Pink Floyd are two of my favourite rock bands) but also the quirky stuff from people like The Smiths' Johnny Marr and Robert Fripp! (I really started appreciating Johnny Marr when I had to teach an adult pupil some of his solos last year. The layering of sound and the inventiveness really struck me as quite special: even though I don't particularly like The Smiths!)

Also a few years back I started really delving deeper into guys like John McLaughlin and Alan Holdsworth too; it really opened my lead playing up - As for my main passion; classical guitar; no one comes close to Julian Bream or Carlos Bonell for me...Those two chaps are just my heroes!

So who do you love? (off topic - but I love The Doors' live version of that song!)

P.S I quite like what Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead) and Matt Bellamy (Muse) have done too with their guitar parts. They are very gifted orchestrators making their guitar just perfect for the song (a bit like Brian May).

I feel ashamed I forgot Peter Green!!!! BTW a few years back there was an excellent programme on Nick Drake on one of the BBC radio stations and it was narrated by none other than Brad Pitt!! By all accounts a massive fan of Nick Drake's music!

Peter Green and George Harrison for me, but there are many accomplished guitarists from across the pond. David Gilmour is another of my very favorite as well....
