All in one printer

Ok, so the wife wants a new printer. I am currently using an Epson printer and I have an old Sony Dye Sub photo printer. I love the dye sub, but the issue is that there are no updated drivers and it crashes my computer after a few prints.

So anyway, she wants an all in one, copier, scanner, printer, photo printer, fax.

Wireless would be a cool feature as well

Anyone have any recommendations for me?

Really, no one has one? The wife will probably want to go out shopping tonight, so any quick recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Re: All in one printer

Honestly, I hate them. You're much better off getting a good printer (preferably non-photo) and a scanner. The picture quality of these home photo printers doesn't compare to a real photo lab (or even printing them at Wally World), so why deal with the hassle?

Re: All in one printer

Well the quality of my old dye sublimation printer is fantastic, but like I said, the drivers are for windows 98 maybe and it will cause windows 7 or XP to crash after a few prints.

Every home printer I have owned has been a piece of shit. Some of them combos, some not. THey have all sucked. My current one is a $100 HP scanner, printer wireless combo and it's a piece of shit. I cannot reccommend anything. Even the huge printers at my work that cost thousands are always breaking. If you find anything at a good price that lasts let me know.

Re: All in one printer

Imo theres alot of options out there to use. We had a older canon one that broke, and now we need a new one, but I loved using the scanner (helps get those old photos onto the pc forever) and I even printed some high quality photos using special photo paper.

I have an HP Photosmart C5280 all in one and it makes great pix on nice quality photo paper when printed from the SD Card. Scanned photos arent bad either. Love it!

I feel like they are made to be disposable these days. Our most reliable printers at work are like 20 years old the new ones just give nonstop problems. And thats from single user inkjets all the way up to huge copiers that staple collate and make coffee

I have an HP, never had a real problem with it. A lot of people go cheap on printers, spend a little and you can get something good. Look for one with good reviews.

Re: All in one printer

I have two HP8500A Wireless/Wired/Web printing and double siding printing as well. It's inkjet but it uses a lot less ink than my Canon MF5300 which is also a great laser all in one. With the HP8500 I can print from my black berry, android, my tablet, or even another computer in another country.

Re: All in one printer

They're all about the same, spend 2 - 300, all your doing is swapping features
not on the other. I just had to buy one (all in one) for a legal claim, as it was easier than doing it at Kinko's, and would have cost about the same.
I have heard that Epson is cut above for photo printing.

Re: All in one printer

I use an HP all in one that I am very happy with... But really I don't print photos on it.

I don't even find the quality of top of the line DyeSub or Jet up to par for prints though... So for what it's worth... That's my take.

Re: All in one printer

Yes, I agree with all that have recommended a Canon, I've been though dozens of printers, and this Canon (pixma mx 700) is the only one that has met, and even exceeded my expectations.

It's awesome!

Re: All in one printer

Things you have to take in consideration.

-Price of replacement ink or toner
-price of toner drum
-quality of print you are looking to get.
-quantity of prints per replacement ink / toner

Because if you pay 250.00 for a AIO laser printer and the toner is 60-100.00 a whack.. then a drum is another 125.00. That adds up over the long run. But you get 1500-2500 pages out of it.

If a Inkjet cost 150.00 - 200.00 and replacement ink cost 80.00 a whack. But the inkjet cartridges only yields 500 pages.

Re: All in one printer

One thing to think about is that Inkjets the ink will run if you get water on them,. Lazer jets the ink won't run if it gets wet. As far as brand I sell way more HP and Canon.

Re: All in one printer

After owning various brands over the years I only buy Canons now as they last. They can be a bit more expensive but the ink is cheap so it evens out. The ink has gone up a bit in price lately (hasn't everything?) but it is still cheaper than many other brands.

Brother International - Multifunction Centers - MFC-9120CN

I got this one and I like it. It's not meant for printing photos though, but no home printers are good at that in my opinion, and it's much cheaper to print photos at dedicated shops.

Re: All in one printer

90% of my job is paperwork over the past 20+ years of printing a shit load of documents. I like Canon the best they tend to me a lot more cost in operating them. A good balance laser printer is the Brother and I find that the Toner/Drums are the cheapest. In fact I equipped the last placed I worked with all Brothers because of the cost of replacement toner was the lowest. Now since I have switched jobs. I find that the HP Officejet does a great job for less money. The only draw back is it's not as fast as the lasers printers, but it does a good job of keeping up.
