The Sg Instrument of Evil+Singers Yelling GUITAR

Two for one RECESSION busting post. First off it is HOTTER THAN HELL in Philly, Second Hell Aint a Bad Place to BE! Sgs ARE EVIL? I think they are. Tony +Angus are Bad Boys. Clapton and George were pretty "dark " wielding their Sgs. Cream were a DARK band at times. Acid Hangover music. Revolver is my Fave Beatles. Love EARLY guitar sound!

I always chant SG SG SG it feels GOOD. Great light mahogany BEAST,Nasal + Brutish they look EVIL. I have an ALMOST Norlin 86 Standard Blood Purple red. IT SLAYS. I talk about #1's alot. ALL MY AXES ARE LOVED > The Sg is SPECIAL. I went out with Johhny Hate<from SpaceChrist< to buy a guitar for John. We were at Zaphs in Philly. We are leaving. John liked looking not BUYING. He pointed to MY Sg on the wall.

Everything went HAZY when I saw that SG. I bought it for 400. When I quit fezziwig in 94 I got rid of EVERYTHING except my 74 Custom. I tried to sell the SG . It kept coming back. Tempting me.

I vowed I would ALWAYS keep it. THANK GOD OR DEVIL?It came back AGAIN AND AGAIN. I play this axe ALOT. A good Sg is REALLY Sweet. Light as a feather and mean. Oh yeah. I DO believe they are EVIL . When I play mine w/Iommi bridge I WANT TO SPIT GOBS OF MILDLY SATURATED POWER CHORDS INTO THE FACE OF ALL> EAT MY FEEDBACK AND LIKE THE TONE! Sorry for the yelling. The Sg has a Grip on Me.......

Here is the "BONUS" thread!
Last night I was taking a shower . Lisening to KISS. I Stole Your Love ! I LOVE when Paul yells GUITAR and ACE flips the switch. I have always been the singer/guitarist in my band. I can't yell GUITAR to myself? I just always love it when guys and gals yell guitar and a GREAT MID-range solo flashes before you! Give me song that have :GUITAR" yelled or tell me about your EVIL SG. Trying to save Alex SPACE. With two threads in one deal. Tighten the belts alittle!

Re: The Sg Instrument of Evil+Singers Yelling GUITAR

Weirdly enough, the SG is the only major Gibson model I've never owned, and I don't know why that is... So many of my favorite players used them, and they sound and play great.

I may have to get one someday. Plus they have HORNS... How "Evil" is that?

I think that I steered clear of them after playing a friend's years ago. He casually commented that it wasn't a big enough guitar for me, and that it looked "wrong".

Now I'm thinking HE was wrong!

On a Philly side note. A few years ago a band of mine was doing a small tour, and had a week long gap in shows. We stayed in Philly with a friend of ours that had moved back there after living in Houston. She lived in this cool (Haunted) four story brownstone in this really pretty neighborhood. There were no air conditions! There was a freak heatwave that week. We all felt like we were going to die... And we're from Houston. We're used to the heat! What's wrong with you guys? A window unit only costs a few hundred bucks!

Also, Tim... There a chain of cool convenience stores up there called wammus or something. They sell a lot of stuff most chains don't... Deli food and such... Can't remember the name of the damn things... Any idea what I'm talking about?

Re: The Sg Instrument of Evil+Singers Yelling GUITAR

My SG does things no other guitar of mine could ever manage. It's just full of nasty attitude.
Bought it with a repaired headstock break for cheap because I like the neck and wanted a backup to my LP Studio faded.

But it gets steady rotation for its wide-rangeing tones.

Believe it or not, with the stock 490 series pickups and standrad pots, it will do a serviceable job on jazz, blues, raunchy-tone rock, and even Country.

It's not the first guitar I grab for at home for couch noodling, but sometimes it's the second!

For the Philly connection: my older brothers were born in Upper Darby.

Glen Buxton and Michael Bruce both wielded SG's in the heyday of Alice Cooper...

Darth Vader would too-- 'ceptin' that he's a keyboard kind of guy...

Re: The Sg Instrument of Evil+Singers Yelling GUITAR

It's been a player since it was born 50 years ago. It was never destined to be a pretty boy, quite the opposite. It was rocked hard by its first owner who broke its neck while leaping off of his stack doing a Pete Townshend windmill. The owner broke his leg. The beast demands a price.

It was repaired in '75, when the instrument took me over next. Like a Phoenix, it arose from the dead and was reborn. The body was refinished, original faded cherry still on the neck, which nowadays has very little nitro left on it from the attention that it received... demanded.

The HD decal, which reflects what lies within, was ceremoniously placed on in a pool hall ...in a drunkin haze... getting its first ink. It supported me, gave me shelter, fed me, mesmerized and bonded with me, suffocating like a jealous lover for quite a few years.... but the price was high. It demanded full devotion to the dark caverns where the air is laced with the stench of stale beer and smoke. It awoke and came to life in the night.

In the 80's the bridge P90 could not keep up with the abuse, so as an evolutionary leap, once again the Phoenix stirred and it was reborn. The bridge pickup was removed and various HB's filled the rout, as it demanded, called out for more power and edge. It took time to morph into it's current form, to evolve to a higher plane... but it did.

It's been years since I gave up the darkness and moved to the light. Family formed, other priorities and responsibilities took hold and triumphed. But it still calls, beckoning me to take it off the wall and recall the trips we both took to the abyss. Then morning comes and its back on the wall, until it beckons again.

The SG is Gibson's Telecaster - a no bullshit, no frills working guitar. Everything on it serves a purpose. None of it is there to look pretty. It's all there for a reason, or it's not there at all. The whole attitude is "I ain't got time for bullshit".

That's when I first was smitten with SG love. Saw Alice Cooper in the first week of May 1970 SUNY@Plattsburgh in the school gym. I was never the same after that.

Re: The Sg Instrument of Evil+Singers Yelling GUITAR

When I got it for $300 it had been through the wars. With a plastic covered minihum that barely worked. Somebody had decided to do a refin and stripped the top...WITH A ROTARY SANDER.

I brought this little beastie back from the grave with a new coat of appropriately EVIL nitro, a DiMarzio hot minihum (coil tap engage!), a hipshot piano bridge, and a hell of a lot of elbow grease and inhaled paint fumes.

If you want to nail the tones off of Alice Cooper's first three albums, this baby will get you there, double quick.

Re: The Sg Instrument of Evil+Singers Yelling GUITAR

SG's are tough to beat. Angus, Iommi, Townshend. What more could you want?

I have 1991 Special with a maple neck, 3 nobs, no pick guard. It is as plain and unassuming as can be. I bought it for $300 with a crappy Crate amp off a kid who wanted $$$ to buy Guess jeans back in 91. I put a 57 Classic + in the bridge and played it through my Marshall with a fuzz and a Vox wah. People used to ask if I had it custom built. LOMFingL.

Still own it, always will. It is the best sounding guitar I have ever had. And I have had a few.

I also have a 2005 Classic. It is one sweet guitar, very nicely made, plays great, sounds great. Add fuzz and a classic Marshall and it is heaven.

Re: The Sg Instrument of Evil+Singers Yelling GUITAR

Timmy, I knew right away when I read the title that you were talking Alive II language -- "Guitar!" --I just fvckin' knew, don't ask how, it's in the lap of the rocknroll gods. I grew up wanting to be Ace, off to the side most of the time but when push came to shove and the song was slowing down I would be the white goddamned knight and kick it in the ass.

And I still play that way. I was jamming earlier tonight to Santana, I normally don't care for his shit, it's very samey samey for my money, but when "BMW/GQ" came up, the stars fvckin' aligned and the notes fell like rainwater, who cares where the droplets belong? They fall and there you go!

And do you know what was going on in my head? (Not literally, but certainly on vibe)?

GUITAR!

Re: The Sg Instrument of Evil+Singers Yelling GUITAR

cool thread man, and cool looking SG's posted.

I gotta admit, even being a diehard Fender guy, the SG is the only Gibson that's ever called to me. If I ever buy a Gibby, it's going to be an SG.

I blame Iommi, and the fact that's it's the Telecaster of the Gibson world.

If you want to nail the tones off of Alice Cooper's first three albums, this baby will get you there, double quick.

That is a really cool SG. I love SGs that don't follow the norm.

Geo you brought a tear to my eye. GREAT TALE. I love the guy doing a Pete t and breaking the neck and his leg. That is R+R! being a shithe@d and lettin' the world spin while your head spins and POWERFUL chords are SLAYED. GREAT LOOKING SG! What a player! Great combo of P90 in neck and hum in bridge.

This SG is EVIL! They do beckon ! I'm sure the wife looks sideways at it. Afraid of the UNCANNY power it exudes! Sure Lesters are prettier. So is the "hot" girl from high school that didn't put -out! Give me the girl with big jugs and a space between her teeth. Just like the SG . It aint pretty ,but it puts- out!

"Alice" my faded SG special, ebony board, handwound PAF's and custom wiring. My first Gibson was a 68' SG so I guess I am partial to them for their light weight and playability. She's an LP slayer for sure
