What is your families history ?
Ok, so we all types and cultures in here, but what are your origins and roots.
I'm a UK citizen, but not that far back. My fathers side were Russian Jewish from Lithuania and came over in 1911 to settle in the east end of London. My great great Grandfather returned pissed from a night out in a Russian village. Took a short cut across the ice, and was never ever seen again. My Mother, who wasn't Jewish came from the French speaking part of Switzerland and came over to England in the 1920's when her Mother ( My Grandmother.. Widowed ) married an English soldier convalescing in Switzerland in the 1st world war. Bad move.. He spent all her wealth, then died leaving her widowed again, except this time in a foreign country. Both her daughters, my Mum and my aunt came to England to look after her and both stayed. One of their Brothers staying in Switzerland, the other moving to Canada. My Dads side has so far been traced back to my Great Great Great Grandfather Father in Russia, who was a businessman, although I have a sneaking suspicion he was more like a character from 'Fiddler on the roof'. ![]() My Mums side go back to 1377 where they were originally Normans who moved to Switzerland from Normandy. He won some battle honours and was made Count of Gruyer.. ( Yep as in the cheese) and was probably a henchman for the Duke of Savoy. There is still is the family castle in Switzerland, but was sold to an American I think in the last century. Nothing I'm afraid came my way... ![]()

Re: What is your family history
My family has been in the U.S. for many generations. I have tried to work backwards and figure out from where prior to coming to the United States, but my ancestry is truly the great melting pot and it is impossible to determine early family origins. All I know is that most of my family settled in West Virginia and Maryland and were either coal miners or bootleggers.

Re: What is your family history
My Dad's Grandma's side of the family claims Lord Francis Bacon; in fact one of my "hooligan" Bacon family members helped burn Jamestown to the ground around 1700.
![]() The Wiggs' family settled in Wayne County, NC in the 1700s...dirt farmers mostly, poor folk. They moved to Illinois in 1860. My G-G-G Grandfather enlisted in the Union army; less than a year later he died at the Battle of Vicksburg. There are a lot of my people in South Carolina; I've heard that they owned most of Charleston, at one point. BB

Re: What is your family history
Hey.. Some amazing historical lines coming out with some great stories too..
![]() Just goes to show what a melting pot we are all part of.. There's me waving the English flag although neither of my grandparents were even born here.. Keep em coming..Fascinating stuff. Actually I have a stack of American relatives and Irish I never even knew about untill some relation of mine e-mailed me with the family tree, as he was into genealogy in a big way. Imagine B-squared's great great great Grandfather fighting in the civil war, or mine seated on some horse with full armour and a lance.. Jesus! I wonder what these people were like. What great times they had in their lives and what disasters and misery and that one day our great great great great grandchildren will be tring to find out what we were like.. I have a feeling mine might be disappointed. " A Guitarist.. Fuck me that must have been boring". ![]()

Re: What is your family history
I still have a lot of family in the UK; my Grampy was a Romany Gypsy...that's where I get my humor and music, I think. My Nan was in service, she was really funny as well. I was very close to both of them.

![]() That's Don Francesco Ciccio in the 'Godfather'. The guy kissing his hand is D'Niro as the young Don Corleone.

Re: What is your family history
on my moms side Ive got a native american and englis heritage. One of my ancestors probably in the 1500's-1600's married a cherokee woman. and her fater has english origins. There's not much to tell on my dads side. My grandmother also had cherokee heritage. I don't know about my grandfather. We did a last name search and it said we were from wales. My great grandfather lost his parents at a young age, so there wasnt much to tell about the lineage.

Re: What is your family history
On my fathers side, one of my ancestors came across with Hernando Cortez. After pillaging central America he decided to settle down in Cuba. Nothing more interesting happened until they fled Cuba when Castro took over and settled in Tampa, Fl. They were a line of cigar makers up until recently. On my mothers side, we can trace our roots back to the mid 1700's where one of my ancestors was hung for being a pirate ( a lousy one at that!
) They now control a good portion of the Port of San Juan... but alas my branch of the family tree have become outcasts and are not party to that fortune. My avatar is my familys crest from my fathers side. So I come about my rougishness honestly I suppose....
