Re: What is your family history

I'm American, with family from the Fraser clan in Scotland, and I think those origins go back even further to France. Some Irish I believe. A lot of Native American and Spanish blood. My great, great, great, great, great, great (and more) grandmother was Pocahontas and her great grandson was John Randolph. My current cousins are the Judds, Ricky Scaggs *shutter* and Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus, and I learned a lot of this because there's a book called Sacred Wind that you can get in Barnes and Noble, about my dad's family. Even has picks of my grandfather about it. Its mainly about Cratis Williams though who was a cousin, and they made a movie about him called The Song Catcher, but I thought it was hideous.

Re: What is your family history

isn't geneology like a pyramid? If i go to a deserted island with a wife and start a family, and the family just keeps reproducing (incest was normal in the old days probably), and there's no outside contact, then thousands of years later and a couple million people later, wouldn't everyone on the island be able to claim me as their relative?
I'm saying we are all decents from the same couple people, at some point in time, whether it be 2 thousand years, or 200,000. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Re: What is your family history

My mom's side of the family is English (Jack and Robinson family trees)

My dad's side of the family is Scotch/Irish (McQuain)

The story goes that pretty much all the McQuain's in North America can be traced back to 1 of 2 McQuain immigrants from a few hundred years ago. My family tree has been traced back to a McQuain that come over to VA as an indentured servant under a man named Bodkins. Well, about 2 years into his 7 years of indenture work to pay for his passage, McQuain marries Bodkin's daughter (and gets to move into the "big house" and out of the servants' quarters). They ended up settling in what is now known as Bodkin's Ridge, VA and the family started moving out from there. My particular branch later settled in WV (Elkins) and my mom's house is on about 80 acres that was part of the original family farm at the turn of the last century. We even have some streets around my home town named after my family.

Yeah that could work. But only surmising that you and your wife popped out of thin air.
If so, then one has to believe the Adam and Eve thing ( Which I don't )

I do agree though, that we are probaly more related than we'd like to think, simply because there were less people around a million years ago.

Interesting story mmcquain and an interesting name. Sounds very old English.

Ask him if there was any Ralph Caplan married to Fanny Woolfovitch at the turn of the century with kids... Harrry, Josi, Henry, Minnie, Elizabeth, Arnie and Lennard. Probably in the UK at the time although originating from Kaunus in Lithuania.

not really,I can grow a decent beard and 'stache,I just dont have hair on my chest. My Dad was the opposite.

Re: What is your family history

I know nothing of my family's history prior to 1945. My parents never told me our family's origins or ancestors and ive got a feeling their parents never also told them much. fookin' losers.

I actually got some of it wrong. My dad doesn't remember what our real last name would be. The Caplans are his mom's family. His family is kinda of quarky and they don't keep in touch. His first Cousin is Nina Housenic ( phonetic madain name ). Whose mom was a Caplan and sisters with my dads mom, Gertrude.

One of my friends is the result of a few generations after one of Winston Churchill's affairs. His last name is Churchill

Re: What is your family history

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but it's geneology based. Does anyone know of any good sources to track where military people were stationed during WWII? My dad was with the USAAF stationed in the CIB Theater of OPs, he didn't talk very much about those times, and I should have asked more questions when he was still alive. I know he spent time in India and China, and Burma as well, but nothing on the specifics. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't remember where I read it, but having looked at many native American's in films etc, it's tru, you never see one with a beard or moustache, chest hair, or even a five 0' clock shadow for that matter.
