Re: What is your family history
My Grandmother on my Father's side of the family was adopted and she tried to find out more about her real family. It seems that I might actually be related to John Dillinger.
I'll have to try and do some additional research.

One thing I would like to know though.. Why can't native Americans grow facial hair? I have always found that interesting. Reminds me of the joke. A white settler comes up to an Indian and says " What did you call this country before we arrived"... "Ours", said the Indian.

Re: What is your family history
Very interesting how many people in here seem to have native American ancestory. I would have expected maybe one so far and many more from Europe. But so far it's the complete opposite. That has surprised me.
![]() Still at least we haven't had an American who has said he's descended from a Scottish Laird.. For some strange reason many Amercians I have met are obsessed by having Scottish ancestors. Here's another of my relations, although I don't ever recall ever meeting him. The world champion boxer Jack Kid Berg. ![]() Here signing autographs. Originally he came from the east end of London and was called the whitechapel ( A district in London ) windmill. He moved to America in 1931. ![]() It was also rumoured he had an affair with Mae West... Lucky bugger

Re: What is your family history
Born and raised in Historic Orleans of a strong bloodline and a most cherished
heritage. Distant, but not vague relative of one Sir Henry Morgan, Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica and Brethren of the Coast, with a small but very honorable dose of Native American descent, Powhatan, which makes any day a good day to die. ![]()

Re: What is your family history
My dads cousin was the family historian. He traced it back to the 1740's, forget the exact year now. Good King George gave us a 100 acre land grant in Wake County N.C. There's no paper trail before that, but he did find a ships passenger list from 100 years before that, a Lord Poole landed in Mass., no way to prove lineage to fill in the gap though. If there was I'd be able to officially use his coat-of-arms. Moms family was Scotch-Irish. Scotish family Stewart, as in Mary Queen of Scots. Came here early 1800's settled in Ohio. Great grandfather was a POW during civil war, prison in Texas. When he got out after the war he moved to Kansas for the free land. Great Great Grandpa on dads side fought for the south. I've wondered if they ever shot at each other. Everyone was either farmers or preachers.

Re: What is your family history
My father's parents came to the US from Italy in 1920. Grandfather fought in the trenches for four long years in WWI. His family was so impoverished, that he decided to make his fortunes in America. He arrived at Ellis Island on September 10, 1920. He worked seven years making radio cabinets for RCA for $0.25 a day, finally saving enough money to return to Italy and fetch my grandmother and several brothers and sisters. My dad was born in New York City in 1932. Here's my grandfather's hometown - Ferandina, Italy.

Re: What is your family history
My grandfather on my father's side went from Scotland to Ireland to the US in 1883 and found their way to Texas in 1898. My grandmother on my mother's side is related to Cherokee Chief Bowles who was murdered in the Battle of the Neches in east Texas. My grandfather on my mother's side as far back as we could go shows from Tennessee up til the Civil War and then to Texas.

Re: What is your family history
Paternal Grandparents were Norwegian immigrants (G-ma had a Titanic ticket! and missed the boat); traced back past Erik the Red.
Maternal side goes through Bluebeard (?) and the Bastard House of Richmond. All's fun in this family. |
