Re: What Have You Named Your Guitars And Why?

I call them guitars.

Strangely, I call hammers hammers and screwdrivers screwdrivers.

If I want to be more specific I say "pass the 12-string" or "pass the Tele".

I talk to them, I love them dearly and fuss over them - like any good tool I own.

But giving them "names", what next, baptising them? Think of the potential for rust.....

Both that and Melissa have crossed my mind especially as I like the song Melissa better than I do Elizabeth Reed.

Still trying to decide what my acoustic should be called.

The Ibanez RG550 in neon purple is Dianna (because she's dirty )
The Fender Jimi Hendrix tribute voodoo strat is Mary, because that's what the wind cries.

Well Jessica came home tonight and, even though I posted a NDG thread in the Les Paul subforum, I figured I might as well post a couple of pictures of her here to introduce her to everybody.

Re: What Have You Named Your Guitars And Why?

Hmmm, a lot of you have Jessica's.

I consider all my guitar girls, and I refer to them as "her." I do name them when the name comes. My newest guitar is an acoustic Yami, and while playing her I thought of the movie "Breezy" which was Clint Eastwood's first directorial film.

So, Breezy it is.

Yes, all are named after family members who are/were very special to me. My Gibson CS-356 is Audrey after my grandmother. My Breedlove acoustic is Barb after my wife. My Les Paul Custom (previously sold but just came back to me tonight) is Paul after my late father, who first introduced me to the music of Les Paul about 40 years ago!

Sad to say YES I had to let that guitar go a couple of years back when I was at a low point (recently laid off, family problems, etc.) but I'm blessed in that things have turned around for me and now that guitar has found its way back into my hands!

So do I. There is just something beautiful about being able to see the grain of the wood. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of flamed tops as well but plain tops will always be tops in my book.

Re: What Have You Named Your Guitars And Why?

I have a snow white Charvel San Dimas pro mod. And as you may have known, San Dimas pro mod's have no pickguard, no pu covers, etc. And my grandma suffered cancer and died of it. Her hair was all fallen out. And it reminded me a lot of my grandma because it's such a beautiful guitar and it means a lot to me because it's my first guitar. And ugh. I'll own this guitar till I die 'cause it's all that I have besides my memory to remind me of my grandma. I don't have a picture of it because I don't have a camera but you can Google "snow white Charvel San Dimas" and you'll find. It's the best soundin' instrument that I have ever heard.
