Anyone Recognize This Guy?

A dude at work is trying to stump me...and succeeding.

This guy is primarily an acoustic player, lots of hits in the 70s. Still playing. He was known for his name, not the name of a band.

Help!

Re: Anyone Recognize This Guy?

Gordon Lightfoot is one of my favourite songwriters of all time. Brilliant artist, and decently nice guy too!

Rainy Day People
Carefree Highway
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Pussywillows, Cat-Tails
Song for a Winter's Night (Christmas song)
If You Could Read My Mind
Lazy Mornin'
Sundown

Some of my favourites... Just the tip of the iceburg though!

You're just saying that because he's Canadian!

Re: Anyone Recognize This Guy?

Haha.. Maybe.

I actually got to meet him once, briefly and he was a great guy.

Another great Canadian songwriter I'd love to meet is Joni Mitchell... But I've heard she can be difficult... But she is one of my greatest influences in my acoustic writing... Even though I can't come anywhere near her crazy melody lines!

Don't forget his stuff from the 60's.

Lived 4 years in Ottawa earlier this decade, and during that time didn't hear a single Lightfoot song on the radio. I was shocked, given the Canadian content rules. Go figure.

Re: Anyone Recognize This Guy?

I really dig his stuff, as well.

Edmond Fitzgerald will always haunt me. Gave me bad dreams as a kid.

Yeah, he never gets airtime. They'll play anything with Neil Young in it, even if he didn't get the full composer credit and call it Canadian instead.

Re: Anyone Recognize This Guy?

He also looks just like a guy I served in the Army with. I can't for the life of me remember his name, because we just called him "Old Man." He was an E5 Sergeant just like I was, except he was in his late fifties and I was 23!

His United Artist recordings were the best. His best all around album though, was on Reprise "Summer Side of Life"

Difficult? How could any woman who would abandon her child for her career be considered "difficult"?
