For some odd reason, I agree. However, it does make me feel all funny inside.

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!
Well, I have a few problems with it. I don't like maple boards and I don't like the general looks of them (I don't even like normal Firebirds), but I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to try one either.

The real task is whether the microprocessors, yes they are now being put inside guitars, work or not? What if you pick it up and want some flanger and it says, "Sorry diceman, batteries are low" I want to play one myself, but my predictions of whether I like a guitar or not before even playing it are mostly, always (lol), correct. Because I'm smug and arrogant. The thing looks dreadful and the features are illogical so therefore I believe I'll hate it. |

Yay, a maple fretboard and a swirl paint job! Hooray for revolution!
News flash, Henry, you can cover it with dog crap or solid gold and people will still cringe when they see it.

For Christ's sake, they want to add MORE to this wild drug born device?

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!
My guess is the the delay is due to them feverishly trying to find a well known guitar player to play and endorse it.

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!
As pretentious as the FirebirdX appears, don't you still want to try one out at least? I can't see myself really buying one, but it would be cool to take a test drive for grins. I bet most everyone tried out the original Robots. Hell, I bought a first issue Robot, but later traded it for a Taylor T5 because the robotic stuff did not get me real excited. But, the original Robot was a good player.
I most certainly agree that the marketing of this new guitar has been less than stellar.

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!
No, they have simply realized that their production facilities can't really handle making them (easy enough to make a prototype or three but more than that becomes a hassle) and now they're trying to save face by claiming they are improving it. Regardless of what they do, it will still be a turd and I'll keep buying from Fender and Godin until Gibson gets its head out of its arse.

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!
I wanna try one out... Not because I expect to be impressed by the thing, but because I feel it's only fair to demo something before committing to complete hatred of it.
If it's as underwhelming as I expect it to be (And it's not winning any points on appearance), then I'll gladly communicate my loathing to anyone willing to listen.

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!
"Delayed shipping" -
I smell a rat. I would think a company the size and stature of Gibson that announced a limited edition product for the xmas season that is supposed to REVOLUTIONIZE THE INSTRUMENT would have a very well planned and strategic marketing campaign mapped out to a T. NOT leaving a blank page on the website for days following the announcement, Not letting the CEO insult the brand's core customers, NOT ignoring said customers calls for more QA/less gadgetry, NOT slapping a hideous Pollock-esque finish on a $5500(!!!!) guitar as an after thought, and CERTAINLY NOT ANNOUNCING A RELEASE DATE WHILE THE THING IS STILL IN R&D!!!!!! Good lord, this is a fiasco! It will be interesting to see how history depicts this guitar. Now, I have no plans on buying one and I doubt I'll even get to try one, but this just feel insulting. Maybe wouldn't be so bad if Henry didn't keep saying that this is better than anything we've ever played and that we're idiots if we don't like it. |

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!
I will never buy one - but I would like to try one.
And, $5500 msrp I'm sure... $3k street I'd guess. Still not something I'd spend my money on - but I do like seeing some innovation every now and again. |

"... seven microprocessors and three operating systems onboard this monster ..."
What could possibly go wrong? I see nothing but trouble with this.

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!
I'm uninterested in trying it out. But then, rather than multieffects, I prefer individual pedals. I don't see the point here.
Get the tone right and effects are irrelevant. Get the tone wrong, and all the effects in the world won't save it. I'm sure there'll be a use for it somewhere, in some song, but I don't see it working with my music. Plus, at three gs, it's a bit out of consideration right now. |
