I like the really innovative finishes in the photos that look just like Ibanez or Charvell finishes from the early 90s.

Easy. Two are bound to crash at any given time.

Three operating systems on one guitar is NOT something to brag about! They should be ashamed that they had to resort to something like that. Software development is all about generalization and re-usability!

i agree, i never had a problem with it from the start. i think built in effects in a guitar is a great idea, to an extent; maybe a distortion boost, wah...basically put half a line 6 pod in the control cavity...not too many effects though, i dont want a computer guitar.

at first i really didnt like it, but the new color looks great with the maple fretboard. im not gonna be able to afford it of course, but it was a good idea, good job gibson.

those of you who dont like it, maybe um dont buy it?

I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen... Very few people are going to buy it. I imagine a lot of the people that would like to buy it probably can't afford it.

The thing is, Gibson's spent years telling consumers that the traditional "old fashion" way of building guitars was the best, their flagship models are all traditional in design, and I just don't think that they've cultivated a large customer base that wants what the Firebird X has to offer.

If it was under $1000, I think more people would at least give it a chance, and it might be adopted by younger players that are more comfortable with this kind of technology, but can't afford a guitar that costs more than five grand.

In any case, this delay seems to indicate that Gibson is having problems at some point in the manufacturing of this guitar. Doesn't bode well for it.

All my guitars currently have only 2 operating systems; my right and my left. They work best when used in conjunction with each other

Because it's cooler that way... Functionality, desirability... not important....

Oh, did I mention it tunes itself too? Now, that's worth 3K. It comes with african mahogany finished in tooth fairy dust, knobs made out of mammoth bone and neanderthal hair for the strap! You NEED one....

It's Collectable!

No, no, you're missing the point... First.. it's not a Gibson, you see? It's not "good enough" remember?

Also, it didn't tune itself! We all know guitars that don't tune themselves are unplayable!

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!

I'm thinking Henry saw the Fender thing for the video game and decided to try and one-up them without realizing that Fender designed theirs for a game.

Here's a good one from the comments section of that page on Gibson's site:

From: slimmy_jimmy_tim_tim

Quote:
Yeah, thats Gibson code for the Firebird X has had an AI issue, in which the guitars have started killing our R&D guys. We put to much crap in them. One hauled off and shot an intern the other day. We need to stop them from trying to take over the world, so until then hold off on getting that second mortgage on your home.

Re: Great excuse, Gibson!

If they wanted to do something really revolutionary, why didn't they expand on some of these actual revolutionary concepts?

Putting digital effects in the guitar body is nothing new or revolutionary. All that does is limit your choices of effects to what they provide and market that is compatible with their system.

Its like genetically engineering a new coffee bean that has cream and sugar built-in just so you don't have to add it after pouring a cup.
