58-60" Leather Straps??
Who makes a good leather strap that is at least 58" long?
I have a Stephi strap which is 60" - and is what I use on my Les Pauls. I like it well enough - but would like a bit higher grade leather in my next strap. I need a roughly 58" strap for my Strats. I can't even find that. Why the hell are most straps only 53" at the longest? I'm 6'2 - hardly a monster - and I don't wear my guitars around my knees. Frustrating... ![]() Edit: I can make a 56" work in a pinch... that is the absolute shortest I can wear a Strat and still be comfortable. This is what I want: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...rap?sku=360548 53". Really? Anyone over 6' will have a hard time using that strap on a Les Paul.

Re: 58-60" Leather Straps??
OK. I've managed to talk to myself enough to figure it out.
![]() Levy does have XL straps - up to 65" - although Musicians Friend doesn't carry them. Example here: LEVY'S 2 1/2in GARMENT LEATHER STRAP XL - BROWN - eBay (item 370347624693 end time Sep-06-10 12:11:47 PDT) I'll be headed to my local shop to see about ordering me one... I guess we'll just consider this an informational thread.

I have the same issue, Dice. I'm 6'1" and most guitars straps are just too short for me.
Even though I don't hold my guitars as low as Hetfield, I do use the same strap 'cause it's 3" wide, nicely padded and long enough: M7GG3 - Levy's Leathers |

Nicest strap I've ever owned. They'll make one to any length you want.

Re: 58-60" Leather Straps??
Ever try looking around a tack and feed store? I'm 6'4" and not small. I've never took for granted a guitar strap that was long enough.
I live in a heavy equestrian community and they are well supplied and have some gorgeous leather straps down at the tack and feed store.

Re: 58-60" Leather Straps??
Not cheap , but El Dorado makes the best vintage thin , real quality, saddle leather straps made. I have an extra long tooled leather vintage style and its 60 inches let out all the way. Give one a try and you'll see why.

I dont know how some of you play the upper register on a lp with it so low, I have to pick the guitar up to get there and stay accurate

I'm the same height and those are exactly what I use.. Most straps are way too short for tall people.

Re: 58-60" Leather Straps??
I'm 6'5" and most straps are fairly short, but I wear the guitar pretty high to get a good left hand position that won't lead to wrist strain.

Re: 58-60" Leather Straps??
Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
My hard drive died the day after I posted this - and took 3 days to get fixed. Sorry for my neglect of this thread. ![]() I ordered the strap I had posted above through my local dealer - he'll add it to his next Levy order. So... sometime in the near future I'll have it. Thanks again everyone! |

Re: 58-60" Leather Straps??
Look into custom leather work.
I went to our local boot/belt/saddle maker years ago and had him make me a strap, he took several measurements both with and without the guitar and it's been my favorite strap for 20 years. Made with some seriously heavy 10-12 oz bullhide leather, 3 in wide and would support a 747 from my shoulders.

Re: 58-60" Leather Straps??
+1 for El Dorado Straps, made in the USA. If you don't see it listed on their site, they will make one for you. Anything from extra length to a full blown custom strap.

I believe it's Pleather, but I have the guitar a few inches below my belt (I like to have it slung low) and this is my favorite strap to use

Re: 58-60" Leather Straps??
I just ordered three custom-length leather straps from Italia Straps (Guitar Straps - Leather Guitar Straps and Bass Straps) and they did an awesome job. Super high quality and if you go through the link in the Vendor Classifieds forum you can get a buy one get one free link. Highly recommended.
