New Member - New Elitist

Hi guys; I'm a new member who has had a long standing desire to learn to play guitar. So at the ripe age of 54 I'm going to give it a go. I almost bought a Telecaster; but after realizing most of my musical heros played Les Pauls, my mind was made up. I shopped the local GC and various on-line stores. About 3 weeks ago I was on Craigslist and saw this one. After exchanging emails, I went to the fellow's house and gave him $700 cash. That was his asking price; I felt it to be fair and didn't try to low ball him.

It's a 2006 that is virtually immaculate. It was giged a bit and has a very small ding on the back of the headstock, but other than that it is in 95% + condition.

I picked up a Fender Champion 600 and a Learn & Master Guitar course. My career forces a good bit of travel, but I will have a real slow winter season and will take that time to seek a personal instructor. I have no grand illusions, simply want to sit and play some blues.

This forum has a load of information and I have learned quite a bit. I know I can do this if I am persistant at it, even at my age.

Cheers,

jb

Re: New Member - New Elitist

Congrats, that's a nice looking Elitist, I've got the same model and finish. When you first begin playing it does't seem like your fingers can move and contort like they are suppose to, especially the ring and little fingers, but they will with practice.

Nice find! Can we have more pics? I'm liking the finish, there's a lot of variance with those ambers.

Re: New Member - New Elitist

Yes, the seller told me he had changed around the pickup (Peter Green style) I don't know much about this, but at my skill level, it didn't seem to matter much. I have yet to see any other Elitists on Craigslist in my area which is San Francisco, so I'm quite pleased.

This is the picture he sent me before I bought the guitar. I re-installed the pick guard.

Re: New Member - New Elitist

Congrats! It's a beauty! Love it with the pick guard on too. Good choice!
I was a lot like you, picking up the guitar later on in life. When I was young I had the time to learn, but not the money and then later on in life I had the money, but not the time! Lol I finally decided I would go ahead and do it anyway and I haven't regretted one bit. I dont have the time to play that I might like to and I'm sure I can't learn as quickly as the teenagers that have all day and night to sit around and practice, but I certainly enjoy it!
Well, Congrats and good luck! it's worth it! I know you'll love that guitar!

Re: New Member - New Elitist

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your first guitar! She's a beauty, looks like mine. If you spend much time here you will be wanting more, guaranteed.

Unless the previous owner swapped the magnet around in the pickup, having it mounted backwards like that won't affect the sound at all. Don't worry about Peter Green and magnets and such, you'll learn quick enough what all that stuff means.

I like the flamed tops on the Elitists! They look kind of cloudy! Not so sharp you know!

Re: New Member - New Elitist

Hello and welcome to the forum. I could have written the same post as you. I'm 45, just sarting out because I always wanted to learn to play since I was a kid, bought a new goldtop Elitist and an Orange amp. Like you, I'm also looking for a teacher. This is a great forum for beginners because everyone is very helpful, no attitudes and with some of the lunatics on here, its entertaining as hell .

Re: New Member - New Elitist

Very nice guitar, congratulations on the good deal. And good luck with learning, it's rewarding at any age, and at any depth of study. That's what I think is really great about it: you can float on top and get lots of enjoyment out of just playing around, or you can dig in and try to learn all you can, and there's always more to learn. Despite the elitism that creeps into the hobby sometime, it's really about learning to make music that makes you happy.
