plexi clone kit or tweed kit

im really looking for something different tonally speaking....im hearing a tone that is power tube/speaker breakup and not that preamp fizzy nasal distortion...something that doesn't mind being hit with a fuzz in the front end(but used like its supposed to be, run into an already cranked amp)just for the over the top thick, creamy tone...anyone know what brian setzer used ampwise on summertime blues for the "la bamba" movie?...

Re: plexi clone kit or tweed kit

I've recommended it to others just in the last few days, but check Ceriatone CeriaTone.Com - DIY Guitar Tube Amp. They do clone amp kits: Plexi kits, 18-watt kits, Fender tweed-style kits, Dumble and Trainwreck "inspired" kits, and even a Hiwatt kit. You can even get them to assemble it for you at a VERY low price. Look around and you'll find that they have a very god reputation.

I got a Plexi 50 from them, and installed it into a box I'd built myself. It sounds great, and it's already become my main gigging amp. The shipping cost was high because of the weight of the trannies, but less than it would have been if I'd got the head cabinet too. To keep shipping costs WAY down, my recommendation is to get the kit without a cabinet, trannies, or tubes. You can source all of that Stateside for less money...
