Made my mind up - Burny! Control pics added

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Just thought I'd share some pic's of the Burny I just bought. Finally a LP in the home.

It's said to be late 70's or early 80's.

It's got a nice deeeeeep surface colour

Very close to mint cond and a beautiful tone

Daughter Sara rockin' away!

Not as far as I know. The dealer had the age estimate, and I think it matches the info I've gathered from different Burny-sites.

What a gorgeous top on that one!
Just curious as I've been looking into getting one, now that you own it how do you feel it compares playing wise with other les pauls?

Re: Made my mind up - Burny!

If you pull the p-ups out, make sure to take a pic or 3, I guess the routing can tell who made it. And maybe figure out what kind of p-ups ya got on this one. Also could see if it's a veneer top, can't say I've seen too many Burnys with a top like yours.

Sure is pretty (the guitar, that is). Hows she sound (...the guitar again...)?

Say, you could pull the back control cover off. We can tell alot about it by the wiring and pots. (first gen VH1 p-ups have the braided covering on the wires, for starters). And shoot us a pic if you've got time! This is an interesting Burny sighting!

I bet UITA is interested in this one.

Well - Duane Allman I'm NOT!!! But from my humble view point, this one beats everything I laid my hands on in the process of looking for one. I tested Gibsons (just as good, but too pricey), Tokais, Orvilles, Epiphones and one Ibanez. It's very easy to play, I don't mind the weight, she's got everything tonewise from a broad mellow jazzy tone to all the rock bite I need. I already love this one. And she IS a beauty!!!

Thanks for the reply! I'm in the same position - looking for a nice quality guitar without having to swallow the Gibson price tag! I've been leaning towards the Orville by Gibson line but I've never had a chance to play a Burny and was really curious from a players perspective how it compared to the rest.
Thanks! And enjoy that lp! It's a beauty!!!

And good luck to you! I actually had no real knowledge of Burny when I stumbled upon this one. I was looking for a nice Tokai. I'd heard the name Burny, but it made me think of some kids toy guitarr. So I almost passed on this one when I heard on the phone that the store had one. It was also a good ride away from where I live. But - once I got there, I was sold on it.

From what I learned later - which you all know, of course - Tokai, Greco, Burny and Orville etc are pretty much in the same league. And pretty close to the real thing!

Re: Made my mind up - Burny!

I would think that's it's not a late 70s, wasn't there talk of a Slash model with out a scratch plate and cover less pickups?

Re: Made my mind up - Burny!

Are those tone bleed resistors? Small green caps. However one p-up does have braided cover. Interesting, to say the least.

Most of the so-called "Slash" models I've seen were almost lemon-drop in color. It'd be interesting to see the back of the p-ups to see if they ever had covers on them...

Re: Made my mind up - Burny!

Slash? To some a scruffy looking individual who plays guitar with a hat on and has some bad habbits (smoking, drinking, swearing etc). To others an iconic guitar god who plays a LP. I guess Wikipedia could tell you a little more.

Re: Made my mind up - Burny!

Hi,
From what I know about Burnys, the headstock without the supergrade script was only used in 1980 and for a short time in the late 80ies. I can't tell from which year the latter ones are exactly but I have seen some examples on Yahoo.
Since there were only three Burny LP models in 1980 and the electronics and top on yours does not look like the ones from 1980 I've seen, I'd say it's a late 80ies one. The Bridge pickup has propably been replaced.

Anyway, it surely is a great guitar. I have two Burnys myself and I love 'em. So congrats and enjoy your new axe

You're so right. The bridge p/u is a Seymour Duncan SH1B, the neck p/u is original (whatever that is. VH-1?). Serial no (in the neck p/u cavity) is: 20811. '82? '92?
