LP Set up - Corian nut

Hi Guys,
I hope that you are all well, thanks to everyone again for there input into my last thread really appreciate the feedback / nice comments guys.

So, today I took my new LP Standard across to a very reputable Brisbane Luther, to look at setting up my LP.

The 1st thing he noticed, was a issue with the stock factory Corian nut, basically the groves in the nut for the high b/e stings have been filled a fraction to low, adding to the “buzz” when playing the open note - I am not sure weather this was done by the Gibson factory or someone at the store a brought it from.... However, apparently this is not the easiest of fixes - my 1st option was to have him “raise” the groves some how, but after talking to him he felt that with the corian nut, this would need to be replaced in a “few” years time anyway, as overtime the corian does ware down.

After reading a few threads here, I made the suggestion of replacing the corian nut with a bone nut, he said for $50 it could be done – I said “done” so now I am getting the nut replaced with a bone nut.. I think that I have made the right decision, apparently the bone nut is far more resilient and will last for ever, and will also add tuning stability?

Anyone else had issues with the corian?

Cheers Tim

Re: LP Set up - Corian nut

There's some corian parts on a Martin acoustic I have, but I'm not sure about my LP. I've never had any issues with it. It's very strong stuff.

My LP is also am '07 Standard, so I guess it's corian too?

Re: LP Set up - Corian nut

A lot of Gibsons come out of the factory with shoty jobs on the nuts. My nut had to be filed down as my high "E" and low "E" would slideoff the dang neck if I was wailing out!

My tech told me most of the LP's he deals with always need the nuts filed down some, but never mentioned any coming in filed down too much?

Anyway, great choice on the Bone Nut!
$50 a good price too I was quoted $80 x 3 LP's!

The stock nut job on my Studio is an absolute joke... Unless you like nuts that pinch your strings then let them go "TWANG!" randomly.
