standard strat?

whats the electronics and neck like on the strat standards? I'm thinking I'd replace the pickups with either 57/62s or custom 69s. Would I want to replace the pots? What about the bridge? If i cranked the tremolo all the way down since I don't plan on using it, will that negate having to get a new bridge? Hows the neck compared to some of the mexi models on the deluxe player or 50s classic?

thanks!

Re: standard strat?

I think the pots are pretty good on these. The bridge should be OK for what you are planning. I think I heard somewhere that Clapton puts a block of alder or ash in the trem to "lock" it stationary.

Re: standard strat?

I have a 97 standard strat and everything is just fine. It has the two point pivot bridge and I have it flush with the body. You can indeed put a block of alder in there. It's rumoured to improve sustain. It's got the strat with the standard pickups. I don't need anything else. Maybe not very high output but mines got the delta tone system that with the bridge pickup selected, when you turn tone all the way up it bypasses the circuit so you get more output and highs. But you can try other pickups, just like with the les pauls on here. Everybody likes something else in their pickups. The neck is great. It's got the hand rolled edges that make it feel like a broken in guitar.
