Re: vintage style tuners

Kluson/TonePros all the way. Locking version or not is up to you of course. They have two versions though, the ones with the more "histroically correct" push-in bushings and the ones with the modern bolt bushings. I don't know why but the bolt-ones seem to hold their tune better. What machine heads do you have on there now?

Re: vintage style tuners

I have the grover ones on it that came with it but I really don't like the look of them.
I searched a little more online and I heard that these:
Grover Deluxe Keystones at Stewart-MacDonald
well actually drop right in. But maybe the Tone pros are better?

Re: vintage style tuners

the Grovers are pretty good. ratio 14:1 which is very decent for any rocker that changes strings every week or so. they also add a nice weight to the headstock since they are a little heavier than Klusons or Gibson Deluxes.

i think they require 10mm holes which fits right into Epi holes.

various brands offers that style of tuners and with various options such as Ivory instead of greenish plastic and Locking feature.... here's my opinion after trying them all over the years.

Klusons TP > Grover DLX > Schaller > Gibson DLX > Gotoh > Cheap rebranding (wilkinsons, GFS, Economy...)

and if you can handle the ugly look and can afford it, try some Locking Sperzel's.

hope this helps.

Re: vintage style tuners

you're welcome! TP or grovers... hmm?

Klusons: best tuning machines out of the two in terms of precision and tuning, but they cost 20$ extra. People in the Les Paul community are also more familiar with them (might help if you ever get rid of your LP, i don't know...)

Grovers: better looking with the shinny nickel back (not the band) they also keep in tune pretty well and yeah, i have an aggresive attack on my strings when i play

Cheap Ones: don't!

unless your guitar is a vintage model , i wouldn't spend extra money for Ivory keystones, JMO

once again, hope this helps!

Re: vintage style tuners

I sell lots of Klusons, and use them on my guitars.

I just replaced the Sperzels lockers on my US Masters signature.
