Checking pickups are in the right spot

I have a 498T and a 490R that I had installed in my LP by someone who I'm not sure I trust (hindsight and all that).

When I'm adjusting my pickup height, I find that my bridge pickup (should be the 498) needs to be much higher than the neck pickup for the pickups to be "balanced". Otherwise, the R pickup seems to overwhelm the T. I'd expect the 498 to generally be hotter than the 490, so I'm wondering if the pickups got installed in the wrong positions.

A look at the two-conductor 498T and 490R that got taken out and I don't see a model number anywhere on the pickup, I'm assuming it's similar with the 4-conductor models that got installed. How can I check?

Re: Checking pickups are in the right spot

Nevermind, I found the little 'T' on the bottom of the 498T.

Yes, apparently so. I'm assuming that the neck pup will naturally get a stronger signal due to more vibration in the string the further away from the bridge you get.

From observing pictures of other LPs, it looks normal to have the bridge pup pretty high compared with the neck. Other information is welcome.

Re: Checking pickups are in the right spot

Higher positioning of the bridge pick up will help it match the volume of the neck pick up, but pick up height will also affect tone, so ya gotta adjust to your liking.
