New electronics wiring in Les Paul?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum! I'm the owner of an Edwards 1957 Goldtop Les Paul for a year now. I'm very happy with the looks and playing. Recently I changed the pickups to BG PUF's, which are PAF replica's (neck 7.9k, bridge 9k). The guitar is a bit too bright sounding and although they're very nice sounding, I think I prefer hotter pickups in combination with my Marshall JMP 2203.

In the near future I would like to replace the pickups for hotter ones but firstly I want to change the electronics in the guitar, the pots and the wiring etc. The guitar features four Japanese style 500k pots. I soldered a resistor on each of the volume pots, to turn them into 300k ones. That helped to warm up the guitar a bit. But because the resistors are via via also connected to the tone pots, the tone pots don't seem to work any more like they should.

Now I'm looking for a suitable wiring scheme and places where to buy good pots, preferably in Europe as the euro/dollar rate is kinda low. I use my pots a lot and I'm looking for a warm and fat sound. Would this scheme do?

I hope you guys can help me out...

Re: New electronics wiring in Les Paul?

Get real CTS 300k log pots rather than doing the resistor in parallel. RS Guitar Works is a good place in the U.S., but I'm not sure where you can get them in Europe. Do the wiring 50's style, and try some better caps. I like the vintage paper in oil variety, but sprague orange drops or mallory 150's are cheap and also sound good.
You might be happy enough with your setup after changing these components that you don't need new pups- give it a try.
