Re: Gibson Sg Standard
I'm a Gibson nut, have been for years. But over about the past year, year and a half, they've pretty much priced me out of buying new. SG standards over $1500 and 61RI's over $2,000? That's just insane. I'd like to buy more new Gibsons, but barring an oddball screamin' deal I can no longer justify the prices they are asking. Odd they jack the prices up when money is frozen and very few people are buying anymore (relatively speaking).

Re: Gibson Sg Standard
Won't this price increase on new Gibsons also raise the price on used ones?
It should, if you think about it. Speaking strictly new here. I find it strange because prices here in Canada actually went down a while ago. From what I remember, around two years ago a SG Standard was $1,600 and change and a '61 RI was close to $2,000. Now, a new Standard is $1,325 and (I believe) the '61 RI is $1,800. This had A LOT to do with our dollar a while ago. $1.00 Canadian was $1.10 US. I'm sure our prices will eventually go up as well. |

Re: Gibson Sg Standard
I do both. I complain about the new prices, and back it up by shopping for used deals anymore. And I'm a gear-flipper who's gone through probably no less than fifty Gibsons in the past 5 years. I always thought they were a bit heavy, but affordable (for me). They've now priced me out over this past year or so. Their price increases on average seem to be between 15%-30% depending on the model. That by far outruns most people's cost of living salary inflation that averages 2%-3%.
