SG information request

I have been GASing over a getting a SG 61 reissue for about the last month. I can't afford a new one so I off to fleabay. I have a few questions about a couple auctions for you guys with the SG knowledge. For I want to learn and become a SG geek as well and I don't want to get screwed. I just can't get over that big honking neck of a SG standard. Have all the SG standards through the years have huge necks?

What is the deal with the neck to body junction on this SG? It looks completely different from the SGs I have researched. It is a fake? a different era?

Gibson SG 61 Reissue w/ Angus Young humbucker - eBay (item 280278131440 end time Oct-25-08 16:21:11 PDT)

Are there any other really good sources of SG information? Thanks alot.

Mark

I'm pretty sure its fake, the pickup switch is in the wrong place.

I dunno what's up with the switch, but the case appears to be from the same era the seller claims.

Re: SG information request

That switch location is consistent with an SG from '85... Does it look good? No. It is real though.

Re: SG information request

The body shape and the contours are also all wrong, which is common on SGs from the early '70s to the late '80s. It might be a great guitar if you can get over how it looks.

Re: SG information request

It's definitely real, but I don't think the necks on SG Standards are very big.

Yeah, the body looks horrible. Probably real, but not something I would want.

I was just gonna say the body looked squirrely.

Re: SG information request

Try to get hold of a 70s SG; my '79 is really slim, as is my mate's '72. You can tell 70s models by the small block fret markers.

Compared to a real 61 SG Special they are like baseball bats.

Re: SG information request

This is (well was, I traded it) my '72-'75 SG:

That one on eBay looks odd. And more than just the switch location.
