EDS-1275 Double Necks in action

Finally got some pictures of "The Beast" in action. Only use it for 3 - 5 songs a gig. Sounds good though, 12 string neck has a lovely chime to it, 6 string neck just screams. Feel a bit ridiculous playing it in the pub, but in a theatre? Oh yeah!

Very nice! I love how the R9 is jealously looking on.

Yes, originals. I'm avoiding covers bands at the moment as most other musicians don't seem to have the same need I have to get the feel right. Can you imagine playing a Led Zep tune on one? You'd have to get it just right!

I used it quite extensively on Tim Allen's last recording (The Reason EP), but don't know when he's planning to release it. Sounded pretty cool in the studio too...

Not for long! I was intending to use my '55 Junior for the tail end of the set, but the R9 sounded so good it seemed a bit risky to put it down. Still haven't used the Junior in anger yet.

Not mine. I think it was a Roland. I'm playing through the Marshall Vintage Modern you can just make out behind me. There were actually 5 guitars that day!

Re: EDS-1275 Double Necks in action

I really want to go to a GC and try one out, but how do you hold it w/o a strap? Right hand on the body, left holding one of the necks while moving with it?

Re: EDS-1275 Double Necks in action

Errr, I think I put that oddly. Like if I take it from the wall, is it a good idea to carry with both hands, one hand on the neck, the other on the body or what.

I dunno. I just grab it by the 12 neck and the bottom of the body. Those necks are Maple and very strong.

Yes, like Bole says, just pick it up by either neck. They don't weight much more than a heavy LP Custom, and once you've got used to the sheer size of the body are pretty comfy to play sitting or standing.

Not sure if my one's got maple or mahogany necks, I'll have to take a closer look. Sure as hell hasn't got a one piece body though! Very cute.

FWIW Martin Barre's old '69 EDS-1275 was offered to me for sale during the week. Couldn't really justify owning two of them, if anyone's madly interested drop me a pm and I'll find out more. It's in the UK...

Mine is not all that neck heavy. It does balance better if you move the strap button to the six neck though. They have the same sized cases as Explorers.

Re: EDS-1275 Double Necks in action

I'm just pretty sure that it would be weird sitting fo the first time, since the strings for the 12 string are so up high, and the bottom 6 are so far down.

Mine's quite neck heavy. No worse than a Firebird to play on the strap though. Like the man says, you get used to it pretty quick.
