Invisible Les Paul

Clearly (hah! pun not intended) Dan Armstrong didn't go far enough.

Crooked pickup installation notwithstanding, I'd love to try that thing out. It's all about how you look, not how you sound, right?

Re: Invisible Les Paul

That would be a nice conversation piece. I wonder how she sounds? I think it would look kind of cool hanging in a Jomo display case.

Re: Invisible Les Paul

It's glaringly apparent (hah! I kill me) that because it has a short neck tenon, it's going to sound awful. If only there was one more inch of plastic wedged in there. Then it might give a Slash a run for its money. That inch makes all the difference, you know. That's what an ex-girlfriend told me, anyway.

Re: Invisible Les Paul

How can it possibly sound bad? It doesn't have a chambered body, so according to the "purists", this thing is closer to a proper Les Paul than any present-day incarnation with bloody holes routed into them!

This thing has to rock!

How could you possibly know that? I would think it would be on the light side, but there's no possible way for me to know that.

Re: Invisible Les Paul

My bad. I assumed that acrylic would be more dense than wood.. but according to the only information I can find mahogany would be about 5 times more dense. Dunno how accurate the numbers are, but apparently I'm an idiot.

Re: Invisible Les Paul

Tried one of those superstrats made of acryl in a guitar store once. It was heavier than any other guitar I've ever tried. Terrible!

Yea thats' what I would assume... okay maybe I'm not an idiot and that density info I found was bogus.

in truth the denser the wood, the better it would sound.

Re: Invisible Les Paul

Anyone ever play one of those Ampeg Dan Armstrongs? I had to visit a chiropractor after noodling with one at a Guitar Center. Granted, I'll be first to admit I'm a bit of creampuff, but those plexiglass guitars are anything but light.

Re: Invisible Les Paul

Higher density = more brightness... which is why LPs have those dense maple tops to keep the mahogany from muddying up the tone completely.

Re: Invisible Les Paul

The original Dan Armstrong sounds sweet, it's bright like a tele and got the sustain of a les paul. I think that the whole weight issue is over dramatized.
IMO it's one of the coolest guitars ever.
