Fralin... open and airy, yet still ballsy when you dig in.

Re: Best Sounding P-90?
Yeah, I have to agree. The P-90's are the only pickups I really dig from Gibson.

Re: Best Sounding P-90?
FWIW - When I asked this question awhile ago one of the Duncan employees told me to stick to Gibson's. He also said that if I found the Gibsons too dark and/or muddy then try the Duncan's as they're a little brighter and clearer. I think he's using a Duncan neck and Gibson bridge right now.

Re: Best Sounding P-90?
In addition to my previous post....I thing all other pickups should be banned, banished and made criminal on all future guitars.....P90s are simply the best

Re: Best Sounding P-90?
Jason Lollar makes some p-90s and so does WB...I would think from my experiences with both these PU makers their p-90s should be kick ass...that is what I will put in my future yet not purchased yet guitar with p-90s

Re: Best Sounding P-90?
The newer Gibson P90's (as supplied in the Historics) aren't bad---they aren't too bright and have a nice output range. I tried a lot of Duncans and think they are a little too brittle sounding in some guitars. The Lollar, Fralin, and Zhang (among others) are very good, but bang for the buck the stock Gibsons aren't bad. The older ones definitely have a mojo going on and I kinda prefer the older design with the nickel-silver baseplates and M55 magnets. I have late 40's-50's sets in three guitars and they get used a lot...the late 40's/early 50's sets are lower output and very clear, while the later stuff (up through the mid 60's) is louder and more brash...the newer Gibsons are more like the latter.

Re: Best Sounding P-90?
I have a vintage 57 P-90 in here:
![]() It's like night and day when compared to the stock P-90 that came in it.
