Ebay fiasco

Well, I listed my James Burton Tele on ebay for the third time last week. I got a bid for my minimum, so I "knew" it was sold, so I started shopping around for the Tele I would replace it with. Even struck a deal on a nocaster.
Here's where the fiasco starts: My auction ended Monday with one bid, I send the invoice to the guy and nothing. I waited 48 hours and sent him a message saying "Hey man, I was wondering if you got my invoice, I'd like to get this squared away as I made another deal on a nocaster, blah blah blah". Here it is Thursday and still nothing. I'm selling my Martin as well and this made me edit that auction a little. What gives? I read some things on ebay and it says you have to wait 7 days to file a "no pay". That sucks because right now there aren't any used ones on there, so it would be a good time to re list but I've sold a few things on there lately and have over a $100 tab with them so I would like to get a free re list. Sorry, I'm rambling, I'm just really pissed, I was hoping to already have the nocaster by now.
Any input? Thanks for reading......

Re: Ebay fiasco

WTF man!? That sucks ass!

Yea there is so much BS involved with ebay anymore... I stick with craigslist these days, but there's just as many flaky people on there, plus it takes FOREVER to sell some stuff. There is ONE local music shop that actually won't rip me off with a trade-in... sad thing is, they never have anything I want.

Re: Ebay fiasco

Unfortunately Jomo, world is full of flakey-ass-dip-shits that (IMO) need to banned. They bid, they won, send the money, or, at least respond.
The internet is a great thing, but, it also allows people to flake, due too the
fact (IMO) they arent dealing with each other face to face, which has the
tendency to bring out the "chicken-shit" in them.

Re: Ebay fiasco

Some people treat Ebay like a video game, they LOVE to bid, they LOVE to win, but they have absolutely no intention of ever paying. Some do it for the fun of fucking people over. I have a guy in Argentina who is fucking with me, I ban him and he re-registers and bids again. Finally I banned all bidders from all countries, except the few I have listed on my auction to block him permanently. Some people just love to fuck with you, or anyone they can.

Yep. This is one of the most unfortunate things about ANYTHING on the net. Be it business or gaming, or even just trying to have some pleasant conversation in forums. It's gotta be people who had the crap kicked out of them in real life or something, and feel that spreading their misery through antisocial behavior on the internet is a safe way of dealing with how shitty they feel. In reality, of course, it's just cowardly and it solves nothing for anybody.

It happened to me once like that, but I waited a little longer more, and turned out he's a real buyer.

Re: Ebay fiasco

So I get this tonight:

John,

When I bid on the guitar I had full intentions of purchasing it from you as I have been looking for a telecaster like that for a while now. However, upon going into work today I learned that my job is being terminated due to the current economic condition of the national economy (I work for Denmark Homes and we are sitting on over 30 homes in the Myrtle Beach area). I was informed that my company also filed chapter 11 yesterday.

Due to this sudden turn of events, I am afraid that I will not be able to purchase the guitar at this time. I apologize for the inconvience this has caused you and I have never been a person not to do what I say I would. However, with things being the way they are right now, it would not be a prudent decision for me or my family (I have a wife who's pregnant and a 4 year old son).

I hope you understand.

Sorry,

Jeff

So I replied with this:

Sorry about your job, I mean that, I've been there and I understand. I don't however understand the lack of communication. I would have appreciated a response sooner so I could get it re listed instead of waiting four days to tell me. I like communication, good or bad, I don't like being ignored. That being off my chest, I wish you and your family the best.
John

Re: Ebay fiasco

Nice to see how much of a respectful guy you are, Jomo

This is why I don't go on ebay anymore, too much confusion, too many scams, fakes, etc. That being said, I do hope you sell your guitars, and get what you've asked for them!

Who cares whether or not he was lying...he ain't paying. I'd rather get a story like that than no response at all. Good luck with the re-list Jomo.

Good response to his email, Jomo. If it is true then he has it bad enough and missed out on a score, if he's lying then lets hope karma or his concience gets the better of him!

Re: Ebay fiasco

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the comments. My wife said as soon as she read his email that he was lying. I think he is too, but what are you going to do? I went to file an "unpaid" item and it said I have to wait seven days so I hope they don't charge me to re list it.

Jomo, I believe now Ebay has a new system, Seller can't give Negative feedback.
But when you file an "unpaid" dispute, can you give him a Negative feedback?

The guy isn't lying about Denmark homes going into b.k. Why would he make up such an elaborate story? the economy is a disaster. If i had lost my job the last thing on my mind would be responding to an ebay seller. I am sure his mortgage company...car loan holder, credit card issuers got the first calls. How about a little brotherly love for the guy as opposed nailing him to the wall. Granted it was inconvenient for you, but if his story is true I would much rather be in your shoes.

The best course is to wait and file the 'no pay' claim. You will not have to pay the fees for the 'no pay' auction if the item sells after you relist it through the claim procedure.
Didn't you just get that guitar?

Regardless of the conditions, he made a legally binding contract with you. File the unpaid item claim anyway, and post a negative feedback. You are not responsible for the problems of the whole entire rest of the world, and if his financial situation is that precarious, he should have not bid anyway.
(Okay, all you guys.....go ahead and blast away, telling me what an ayhole I am!)

I'm sure he's telling the truth then. There's noway that he could have Googled "chapter 11 businesses". Thanks for shedding light on this. I can't believe that I was aggravated because I didn't hear from him for four days. I am clearly a dick head.

when i get those stories on ebay, some are true ,some not.
i once sold an R9 .buyer lost his job, blah blah blah,
checked his feedback a month later, he bought 2 others less than 3 days after stiffing me.
so you lost a couple of $, got few gray hairs, at least you still got the guitar to sell, thats another story i've got about ebay i'll tell some day.
don't get me goin jomo, i'll blow a vessel
