Which WB Pickups for me?

Ok,
I have 3 LPs. '07 Standard w/BB Pros, '07 Std Faded w/BB Pros, '08 Traditional w/57s.
The BB Pros in my '07 Std had some microphonic issues and I removed the covers, which helped but did not completely tame them. Compared to the Std Faded with the same pickup type they still squeal under settings the Std Faded does not.
So I am thinking about replacing the pups, but could use some recommendations on the WB line and what would fit into what I am looking for.
I play in a rock cover band. We do everything from AC/DC and GnR to 80s Hair Metal like Poison and Whitesnake to 90s rock like AIC, STP, Lit...etc.
I play through a modified DSL50 that is voiced a bit more like a JCM800. I use a fair amount of gain.
In selecting a new pickup I would like to have about the same output as the BB Pros and 57s that will remain in the other 2 guitars so I hit the front of the amp about the same when switching between guitars.

All that said I was thinking either the VTPs or Firewaters would fit the bill.

Thoughts?

Re: Which WB Pickups for me?

Habaneros ... maybe the new hotter version? they have plenty of power and personality to play those styles you mentioned.

Re: Which WB Pickups for me?

Are the Habaneros close to output of the BB Pros and 57s?

Re: Which WB Pickups for me?

Habaneros, I use a DSL 50 also and they sound great. But they also sound great thru my Fender Deluxe Reverb. After thinking about it, they sound great all the time.

Thumbs up Re: Which WB Pickups for me?

I talked to Will about the exact same thing for my '07. He suggested the Habaneros. Bridge is 9.45k and neck is 7.45k.

By the way BB Pros are roughly 8.2k for the Bridge and 7.7k for the Neck

Now just trying to find some good audio clips of these pickups so I can hear them

I think the VTP would be closer in output to the 57' classics. The Habaneros would be little hotter but a good choice as well and wouldn't be too hot output wise. I have an H&G set closer to the vtph. I just got a firewater set from a forum member. I wasn't sure if I would like it, being as hot as it is but, unlike other hot pups it responds well to volume pot changes. It will do hard rock like AIC, White snake, I can turn my volume down to 9 or 8 and still get a good clear, vintage PAF tone. If you can use your volume knob on your guitar, I think the firewaters would be more versatile especially if your doin alot of 80's metal. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the others either.

Re: Which WB Pickups for me?

The best advice I could give you is to call Will and tell him what you are looking for in a pickup. He will give you the best option you are looking for in a pickup.

Now, I use the VTPH's and the BB customs. I like: Zep, Gn'R, AC\DC, Alice in Chains to blues.

Re: Which WB Pickups for me?

Thanks guys.

I did speak with Will today. Seems like a cool cat.

He suggested the Habaneros and explained it will be a bit hotter than the 57s, but not in a drastic increased output kind of way. Said it will equate to a thicker tone with more growl. Sounds good to me!

Re: Which WB Pickups for me?

I have the Habanaros and firewaters, cant go wrong with either, but I do prefer the firewaters. Dont let the higher output of the firewaters full you, they sound great without mud and have a nice thick sound to them..

Re: Which WB Pickups for me?

That badger demo is what made me call Will in the first place! The man winds some tasty pickups! So far I've heard the 6707's, 5708's, vtph, and have the firewaters in my LP. Oh yeah, the Peter Greene's as well. I love those!
