My new MM long story..

So I been Gassing for different types of melody makers (Single pick up , Joan Jett, P-90) you name it. Well two days ago I see an add in CL for a MM for $225.00 Its the black version with dual pick ups so I email this dude and he tells me come and get it if I want it. So I ask for his number to speak with him about it and he says if he had his phone with him he would call me but he doesn't have his phone?? So I start thinking o.k. maybe this ain't on the up and up. I email him and say I wanna scope it out when can I come. He gives me all kinds of hours when I can and cant come and to pick a time. Also he gives me his address. So I google map his addy and check the curb side shot of his pad (you can do this in google) wouldn't you know it this guy lives on a quaint street, nice homes, until you see his crib, We're Talking 1313 mockingbird lane people!! Dirt for grass and all kind of trash in font of his place.

So we set up meet time thru email ( a real pain in da butt) I get ready to go this morning and pick up one of my more trusty Blades and stick in in my pocket just in case he wants to swallow my soul. Make it to his place and its like he's the male version of the "Cat Lady" got tons of them all over and the place stinks like pussy cats. I got the MM plug it in make sure it works and there are no major breaks or anything. As I look at the Git it is screaming at me get me the hell out of here! It has cat pubes all over it and who know how many times it has been pissed/pooped on. Never the less, I did buy it. I felt a strong connect with it. Like it said if you get me out of here I'll scream for you dood!!! I'll give you all the tone I can!!.

The kid selling it was a student trying to pay overdue bills. He said someone gave it to him he doesn't even play it and it showed. Lots of dust and hair on it. Pretty good condition except for a lil chunk missing from the fretboard. I got some help on fixing that from a kind soul here on the boards. They guy I bought it from also gave me two sets of cables with it also.

When I got it home I cleaned the crap off it and plugged her into my silveface champ. It sounded o.k. but not too nice. I thought, "this MM lied to me". I adjusted the pickups but the sound only got duller, "bummer" I thought. Oh well I can always drop some p-90ish pickups in her. Then while I was saturating her fretboard with oil I took her for a spin again. Still sounded bleh. Then I heard a pop as I moved her around. It hit me like a flash! I changed out the cord he gave me with the other one and BINGO! She was Screaming for me!! I am so happy I rescued her!! Umm I guess I can post pics of her not to exciting to look at but here we go,Not the best of pics.
Oh, and the fretboard is still being soaked in oil was very dry.

Thanks for listening to the ramble! Peace all!

Re: My new MM long story..

Ya guys Im really digging this thing. It's a struggle to keep her in tune tho. I'll have to remedy that with pigtail or a compensated wrap around bridge.

Re: My new MM long story..

I've been curious as to how those pickups sound, compared to P-90s.

Re: My new MM long story..

Their pretty interesting, its been said before. The only way I can think to describe them is not quite a p90 yet fatter than a a single coil depending how you dial it in.
