MXR 10 & Compressor / Sustainer
Hi All,
Just came back from the US and picked up a bunch of Pedals. Wondering if you have any advice on how i should arrange them, at present i have; Front of AMP Guitar - Slash Wah - Distortion Pedal - Overdrive Pedal - MXR10 Back of AMP Compressor / Sustainer Does this sound right, or do i need to change at all? I play with a Gibson Les Paul and Marshall DSL401 JCM 2000 Thanks! |

Re: MXR 10 & Compressor / Sustainer
I like putting the Compressor before the OD pedals, myself--smooths out leads and rhythm playing.
I put time-based effects, like echo and chorus, through the effects loop. BB

Re: MXR 10 & Compressor / Sustainer
Maybe flip the order of the dirt pedals...runnning the overdrive in front of the distortion might sound a little warmer down the line.

Re: MXR 10 & Compressor / Sustainer
A lot of this depends on whether you're trying to get your distortion from the pedals or from the amp. For instance- if you use the overdrive as a clean boost and put it before the compressor, you will actually reduce any hum or low-level noise you have coming from the guitar (particularly important with single-coil pickups).
It would also help to know if your wah is true-bypass, and if it is buffered. If it is not true bypass, it can really suck the tone out in the early stages. If it is buffered, you might be able to get away without the boost. As the previous poster noted- distortion, boost and compression should be before the amp. Reverb, delay and echo should be placed in the effects loop. If it were me, I would start with Les Paul-> wah -> compressor -> distortion -> amp and experiment from there. Sometimes things that aren't supposed to work well actually sound good. |
